"Very pleasant hotel in a good location."
In a good location for exploring Canterbury and surrounding area. Staff could not have been more polite and helpful. Breakfast was very ample and tasty and served in a very pleasant surrounding. Bar was well stocked but a little disappointed the restaurant is no longer open in the hotel. We visited for our silver wedding anniversary, the hotel had put towels made into swans and rose petals on the bed which was a lovely added touch.

"Pleasent hotel close to the town"
Room came without breakfast but perfectly comfortable --Did not eat in the hotel as many restaurants within the town about 10-15 mins walk. Good and useful carparking as a car journey into town can be avoided particularly at rush hour times .

"Lovely hotel, convenient location "
Lovely little hotel, with enormous comfortable room. Private parking, and great location - 5 to 10 minute walk into town, but also easy access to main roads out of Canterbury. Pool is small but was always peaceful and a nice place for a short relaxing swim before dinner. Great breakfast. The only thing I can possibly think of as a negative is I could have done with more hooks on the walls to hang coats etc! Really minor point though! A fab weekend, thank you.

Sun Hotel

Great location and a real historic building (built in 1503) with quirky crooked windows and tiny doorways (mind your head!) but slightly run down. There seems to be little in the way of staffing with no real reception - you have to ring the doorbell or make a phone call to get in. The light in the bathroom didn't come on - just flickered. Reported this but nothing done about it. We were only there for one night so were able to live with it but not really good enough. Full English breakfast was tasty and well cooked and the guy taking the orders was friendly and helpful. The tea/coffee making facilities in the room were generously stocked. This hotel is a real diamond in the rough and with a little more effort could be a real gem but at the moment it doesn't quite cut it.

    Pocket Guide: Petham Canterbury Hotels

Canterbury has a fine strategic position on the route from London to Dover, making it important back in Roman times and well before St. Augustine arrived in 597 to convert the Anglo-Saxons. Canterbury rose steadily in importance over the centuries and quickly became the centre of Christian England. There are numerous architectural and cultural attractions here and a great range of accommodation both in Canterbury and the surrounding area, at hotels, guesthouses and B&B establishments.

Enjoy Canterbury's Attractions from Your Kent Hotel

Canterbury's central importance in British life was assured with the building of its magnificent cathedral and the martyrdom of Thomas Becket. Close by are the impressive ruins of St. Augustine's Abbey, which was destroyed during the Dissolution, and what remains of St. Martin's Church, one of the oldest churches in England. It was where Augustine himself worshipped and it contains valuable Saxon and Norman features. From your base at a Kent hotel or guesthouse, you can also visit the West Gate Museum, an imposing medieval gatehouse that dates to 1381and has a good exhibition of arms and armour.

See the Treasures of Canterbury from Your Kent Hotel

When you visit Canterbury from your hotel or B&B in Kent you'll soon discover why it has become such a priceless jewel in Kent's crown. Thanks to the university institutions here, Canterbury has a very vibrant and youthful atmosphere, with great shopping opportunities and a buzzing nightlife. Canterbury Cathedral and its twin church ruins comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as with all well-preserved medieval towns the main points of historic and architectural interest are all within easy walking distance of each other. There are guided tours around the town and in the surrounding area numerous walking and cycling trails. Canterbury Castle is also worth an afternoon's visit, and if you're a fan of Rupert the Bear you can see where his creator, Mary Tourtel, was born (checked trousers and red turtleneck jumpers are optional!).

On your visit to Canterbury, stay at a hotel like the traditional The Miller's Arms or Castle House Hotel to be assured of a warm welcome. These and other hotels and guesthouses kin Canterbury will put you right next to all the attractions.
