"Basic comfort for a conference"
We stayed at this hotel for an academic conference. It was fine, but the rooms are very hot in summer and have poor air circulation. The shower facilities are not great, as it has a wet room with no ventilation. The bed was not very comfortable and I could feel the springs in the mattress. One slightly odd feature is that the lights in the front foyer seemed to be automatic, but they didn't turn on in the evening so we had to go up the stairs in the dark. But, overall it was clean and fairly comfortable. As this is student accommodation, I would recommend it if you are attending a conference, but would suggest you look elsewhere if you are on holiday and want to relax.

"Ike in Canterbury"
This is student accommodation: well appointed, a vast improvement on my own student days The room is very good value for money. Organisation is a bit haphazard and parking on site would be really helpful. July booking but heating ON! Comfortable bed and pillows but as a small double bed it's too small for a couple. Breakfast poor with one person taking orders and preparing your breakfast then served to table. Conveniently located just on the outskirts of the city walls.

"Nice hotel close to pedestrianized Canterbury"
PROs: Great location near the pedestrianized historic center of Canterbury - helpful staff - great English breakfast - comfortable beds - clean - sufficient parking CONs: hotel serves breakfast but has no restaurant - few places in bathroom to hang anything up (a common hotel failing)

"Lovely hotel for a romantic weekend"
Stayed here while visiting Whitstable and Margate. Was easy to access and parking was available. Room was lovely and big and very clean. Food in the restaurant was good but I feel a little over priced but with a good selection of wine.

    Pocket Guide: Kent Canterbury Hotels

Canterbury has a fine strategic position on the route from London to Dover, making it important back in Roman times and well before St. Augustine arrived in 597 to convert the Anglo-Saxons. Canterbury rose steadily in importance over the centuries and quickly became the centre of Christian England. There are numerous architectural and cultural attractions here and a great range of accommodation both in Canterbury and the surrounding area, at hotels, guesthouses and B&B establishments.

Enjoy Canterbury's Attractions from Your Kent Hotel

Canterbury's central importance in British life was assured with the building of its magnificent cathedral and the martyrdom of Thomas Becket. Close by are the impressive ruins of St. Augustine's Abbey, which was destroyed during the Dissolution, and what remains of St. Martin's Church, one of the oldest churches in England. It was where Augustine himself worshipped and it contains valuable Saxon and Norman features. From your base at a Kent hotel or guesthouse, you can also visit the West Gate Museum, an imposing medieval gatehouse that dates to 1381and has a good exhibition of arms and armour.

See the Treasures of Canterbury from Your Kent Hotel

When you visit Canterbury from your hotel or B&B in Kent you'll soon discover why it has become such a priceless jewel in Kent's crown. Thanks to the university institutions here, Canterbury has a very vibrant and youthful atmosphere, with great shopping opportunities and a buzzing nightlife. Canterbury Cathedral and its twin church ruins comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as with all well-preserved medieval towns the main points of historic and architectural interest are all within easy walking distance of each other. There are guided tours around the town and in the surrounding area numerous walking and cycling trails. Canterbury Castle is also worth an afternoon's visit, and if you're a fan of Rupert the Bear you can see where his creator, Mary Tourtel, was born (checked trousers and red turtleneck jumpers are optional!).

On your visit to Canterbury, stay at a hotel like the traditional The Miller's Arms or Castle House Hotel to be assured of a warm welcome. These and other hotels and guesthouses kin Canterbury will put you right next to all the attractions.
