I needed a hotel near NIH and mistakenly thought this Marriott was on the NIH shuttle route. That was a disappointment. I also should have requested a handicapped room because my room was far from the elevator and bathroom did not have accessible hardware. The suite, however, was spotless and the quality of the room service dinner was excellent.
Loved the room, clean, spacious, comfortable. The only issue (and I verified with my husband and a co-worker who stayed with his wife) is that the air in the rooms is EXTREMELY dry. My co-worker's wife got a nose bleed, and I got very little sleep for having to constantly get water and a peppermint so my throat was not so dry. It's an odd complaint, but it was true. If you have a portable humidifier I'd suggest you take it. Otherwise, I don't think you'd be disappointed.
Now, our stay was just for one night in the winter, so it could have been just a one-off situation.
I was traveling with 2 adults and 3 young kids. Looking for something a little larger then your normal hotel room and found Residence Inn. The room had 2 queen size beds, a living room type area, and a full kitchen (refrig/stove/microwave/full size sink). It also had plates/silverware/glasses,etc). I wasn't looking to cook a meal but wanted to have some snacks and ability to refrigerate/cook for the kids if they got hungry. Stored orange juice, bananas, yogurt, dip, some hot pockets purchased from a local grocery store. Even made cheese omelet for my son as a late night snack.
Top things I liked (and I am picky)
Valet parking/Valet Managers - Included in my all inclusive price of $190 per night (Just tips)
Beautiful Breakfast Buffet - everything you can think of was available and they kept it overflowing. kids loved it!
Guest Services - They are there and ready to help
Room was very clean!
Room was big enough the kids played hide and seek
Room Service/Cleanup was perfect
Blow dryers/irons/paper towels in kitchen/plenty of towels
The rate for two nights was $448 with tax, breakfast, valet parking
Could not ask for more! Thanks Marriot who is always predictable!
With the National Institutes of Health and the National Naval Medical Center, healthcare is a major industry in Bethesda. But this Maryland city also has a creative bent. Art galleries, dance studios, and theaters radiate from Wisconsin Avenue, the main artery of the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District. Sculptures grace many downtown squares.
