The Great Barrier Reef, Australia
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Great Barrier Reef is nature at its most impressive. The Great Barrier Reef is made up of around 3,000 individual reefs and is believed to be one of the world's largest living organisms.
Located off the north-east coast of Australia and stretching for 2,000 kilometres the reef is also home to Whitsunday Islands, an oasis of sheltered bays, idyllic waterways and rainforest national parks.
White sandy beaches line the coast, with the clear water ranging from crystal to turquoise. A lagoon separates the reef from the mainland and offers opportunity for some of the best diving in the world. The marine life around the reef is exceptional, with many endangered species at home here.
Best for: nature lovers, sports enthusiasts, budding marine biologists.
