With so many great destinations to choose from we have made the choice a little easier. We have selected one of the most popular destinations for travel in December.
Dubai
From Abu Dhabi’s little brother to world-leader in about 30 years, Dubai has carved a name out for itself as an international city developing in the fastest, most extravagant way. Upcoming attractions include ‘Hydropolis’, ¬an underwater city; a five-acre tropical forest housing exotic birds; 250 man-made islands modelled on the globe, called ‘The World’; and the tallest tower in the world, the Burj Dubai.
Events and attractions in Dubai
Mall of the Emirates
Famed for taking a fantastical leap into surreality by incorporating Ski Dubai – an indoor ski slope, ‘the world’s first shopping resort’ is easily the biggest mall in Dubai, with 6.5 million sq ft and 7,000 parking spaces. Harvey Nichols, Reiss, Missoni, Marc Jacobs, Carrefour and even Debenhams are included in the mall’s neverending list of outlets.
Wild Wadi
This beach-side Arabian-themed water park has 23 fun-filled rides for kids and adults. Wind your way in leisurely fashion round Whitewater Wadi, propel yourself up Summit Surge, then whoosh down the 108ft-high Jumeirah Sceirah (read ‘scarer’). Plenty of lifeguards are on hand to make sure you and your rubber ring don’t part company, but it’s up to you to hold onto your shorts.
Dubai Museum
The Al Fahidi Fort was built in 1787 and served as the ruler’s residence. In 1970 it was renovated so the museum could be housed within its walls. Inside, the displays are creative and imaginative, allowing you to peek into an Islamic school, walk through a 1950s’ souk, watch traditional craftsmen at work and even to experience (almost) the tranquil beauty of an Arabian night in the desert.
