With so many great destinations to choose from we have made the choice a little easier. We have selected one of the most popular destinations for travel in August.
Los Angeles
If there was an award for being ‘hipper-than-thou’, Angelenos would vie for it. From the crème-de-la-crème of Hollywood hipsters to bohemian Venice Beach and exclusive and lush Beverley Hills, Tinseltown oozes chic charisma. A blend of Gap and Gucci, the sprawling city is as distinct and engertetic as its residents. And then, of course, there’s the sun-kissed climate…
Events and attractions in Los Angeles
Venice Beach
People-watching is the raison d’être at Venice Beach. Seaward from the Walk, jump into the flow of the winding boardwalk, where you can rollerblade or cycle, watch or play volleyball or basketball, and check out the pumped-up men and women who work out at Muscle Beach. Street parking is jammed, but there are several parking lots; try the end of Rose Avenue or Windward Avenue, off Pacific Avenue.
Hollywood star home tours
Los Angeles is rife with guided tours of movie star homes (the outside only, mind) but you’re best off guiding yourself. Get a map of A-listers’ addresses from Souvenirs of Hollywood or a newsstand – the more money you put down, the more accurate and up-to-date a map you’ll receive. Then get stalking. You’ll find the houses of Cher, Bruce Willis and Burt Reynolds on the Pacific Coast Highway, and the homes of Winona Ryder, Halle Berry and Leonardo DiCaprio in West Hollywood.
White Lotus
This Asian-themed club with two dancefloors, a smoking patio, and a requisite VIP area, replaced the Crush Bar in 2003 and almost immediately started a buzz in LA clubland. Here’s a tip: dine here early in the evening and you’ll avoid the long lines that start around 10pm. Another tip: dress to impress to stand a chance of getting past the velvet rope.
