Holidays in February

With February comes Valentine’s Day, but you don’t have to be feeling romantic to take a February holiday. In February, there are carnival celebrations around the world in cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Venice, and in islands like Gran Canaria. So why not book yourself a slice of winter sun on a beach holiday in Gran Canaria, go for the long haul option and the flamboyant vibe of Rio de Janeiro with the family, or take in the refined culture of Reykjavik, Iceland, on an insightful city break?

Different types of February holidays

Variety is the spice of life and we offer you a range of different February holidays. Canary Island destinations, Malta or the Madeira islands will happily oblige you with winter sun, as will sun-kissed St Lucia, Barbados or Hawaii.

We’re pretty sure the kids would like to spend their half term holidays exploring somewhere cool such as Los Angeles or Bangkok. If the budget won’t stretch all those miles, short haul family holidays in lively cities such as Edinburgh or Dublin will put the smile on their faces.

If ‘urban’ is where it’s at for you holiday-wise, you should make city breaks your choice. Lisbon, famous for its old-school tram, and Venice, where you can get round the city by gondola, will greet you with open arms. Further afield, our long haul city breaks allow you to get in on the glitz and glamour of destinations like Las Vegas, or revel in the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam – which blends culture and commerce in style.

Best February holiday destinations

When beaches are on your mind, Fuerteventura is the island to visit. As well as taking up your spot on a black or golden sand beach you can get your adrenaline pumping with some windsurfing. For far-flung sands, Dubai is the place to get away from it all, as is Abu Dhabi, where you’ll see the commerce world going about its business while you bathe in brilliant blue waters against a backdrop of towering skyscrapers.

You and the kids can enjoy a taste of northern life in Manchester on a family holiday. The city, home to Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs, has also produced some of the world’s biggest bands. It will fill you all with nostalgia, whether your kids want to tour the stadiums of their favourite footballers or you and the grandparents seek to trace the footsteps of musicians from past eras.

If wanderlust takes the family far away from the UK, Bangkok, with its street foods and curious culture, will make for an adventurous and original family holiday. Meanwhile, Los Angeles will infuse you with that big city beside the seaside feeling. Why not appreciate a national sport while you’re in the city, with a visit to a Dodgers baseball game? Don’t forget your cap!

For a long haul city break with a difference, Rio de Janeiro is the choice for you. Explore the city under the watchful eye of the Christ the Redeemer statue. February is also Carnival month, so you will have the chance to see the Samba parades, which provide some amazing photo opportunities.

Not willing to power through the jet lag? Reykjavik is a city of serenity, culture and design, with works of art such as the Imagine Peace Tower promoting world peace. If after all that arts and culture you yearn for a stroll along the beach, Reykjavik meets the demand with a geothermal beach.
