Madeira Islands

Madeira, the island that gave the name to the archipelago, is a mystic place of devotion and tranquillity. A place to discover Nature as we discover ourselves. In stark contrast to Madeira’s green peaks, sandy tones colour the landscape of Porto Santo. Just two and a half hours by boat from Madeira, this island’s 9 kilometre beach of golden sand, washed by warm, crystalline waters is the ideal refuge for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

More information on Madeira

Populated since the beginning of the XV century, the natural scenery and therapeutic qualities of Madeira Islands made it, from the XIX century onwards, an important holiday destination among the European aristocracy, academics and famous writers. Later on came movie stars and the rich and famous. Nowadays Madeira is a renowned tourist destination, famous for its unspoilt landscape and natural environment, where the most important feature is the Laurissilva Forest, a relic of the Tertiary Age with countless species long gone from the European continent , which has been classified by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site.

The Madeira Islands are no less well known for the temperate and constant temperatures throughout the year, allowing the practice of an immense variety of outdoor sports and activities, ranging from cliff top golfing and mountain climbing, to scuba diving and deep sea fishing. Madeira’s year-round mild climate may explain the warmth of its people, who are always ready to greet you with a welcoming smile.
