City Centre

Strøget – central Copenhagen’s main pedestrian street –  hosts all the Danish high street favourites, while the side streets off the main drag offer smaller boutiques, sandwich bars, restaurants, and cafés. Also worth a visit are the ‘bridge districts’ outside the city centre: Østerbro, Vesterbro, Frederiksberg, and Nørrebro.

Østerbro

Upmarket Østerbro is characterised by its small specialist shops and many great places to eat and drink.

Vesterbro

Trendy Vesterbro is home to innovative designers who create their fashions right there in the boutiques, as well as many ethnic restaurants, hip bars and cafés, and the famous Vega nightclub.

Nørrebro

Copenhagen's most ethnically diverse district, Nørrebro is just the place for style icons and fashionistas. Nørrebro has numerous ethnic restaurants, busy bars, and cafés.

Frederiksberg

Frederiksberg is characterised by its stately homes and wide boulevards, and a fine sprinkling of tempting shops and delis.

The Michelin Guide 2009 awards 13 stars to 12 restaurants in the Danish capital, making it the true centre for first class gourmet experiences in Scandinavia. The additional two stars compared to last year, give evidence that Copenhagen with its talented chefs, is a capital that takes its quality eating experiences seriously.

Over the last decade, the international profile of Copenhagen's fashion designers has increased dramatically.

Copenhagen’s largest shopping area is centred around Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping street – Strøget – and the streets that surround it. Strøget has everything from Danish high street store names such as Vero Moda and Vila to the exclusive silver, porcelain and glassware of the Royal Scandinavia shops, as well as exclusive electronic brands like Bang & Olufsen.

Take a slight detour from the eastern end of Strøget in the quarter around Kronprinsessegade/Ny Østergade and you'll find charming, narrow streets lined with colourful, half-timbered houses that have been converted into design and fashion shops. This area is also home to department stores such as Illum and Magasin, as well as flagship stores from leading Danish designers, and international names such as Munthe plus Simonsen, Malene Birger and Day.

Nightlife starts late in Copenhagen with things not really getting going until after midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. The city has an ever-changing range of clubs, restaurants and bars catering to all tastes. A newcomer among the in-spots is Absolut Icebar Copenhagen, built out of ice from the Torne River in Lapland. For jazz lovers, the world famous Copenhagen Jazz House offers international standard performers in an intoxicating, intimate atmosphere.
