Billing and ticket delivery

Is my credit card number safe?

Expedia.co.uk uses the Secure Sockets Layer and Private Communication Technology security standards that are supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later and other popular browsers. SSL encodes your personal information (such as your password, address and phone number, or your credit card number) so that it is available only to you and the Expedia.co.uk travel agent who will help make sure your travel planning goes smoothly. This encryption makes doing business over the Internet as secure as making a purchase by telephone.

Why doesn't Expedia.co.uk accept my credit card?

For your protection, Expedia.co.uk requires the billing address for ticket delivery to be the same address where the bill for your credit card is sent each month. When you enter your credit card and billing information, please make sure the address and ZIP or postal code are correct. Also, address verification isn't available for certain types of debit cards. In this case, simply enter another valid credit card and billing address.

Do I always have to use the same credit card?

No, you can use as many different credit cards as you wish. For example, you can store the information of the credit cards you use most frequently so you don't have to type the credit card information every time you use it. Then, any time you want to use a different credit card, you can just select the card you wish to use and add the last four digits of that card. If you wish to use a card you haven't stored, you can still click the Use a different credit card link in the Billing page. This will allow you to use a new credit card for this transaction, but it won't remove the original credit cards from our files unless you check the Remember this credit card for future use box when you use this new credit card.

Using internationally-based credit cards

For most travel bookings, Expedia.co.uk accepts major credit cards issued by banks worldwide. However, due to technical, regulatory and/or other limitations, there are some countries for which we currently do not support foreign credit cards or billing addresses. In addition, please note that all cruise bookings currently require both a US-based credit card and billing address.

When entering your billing address on the 'Add a credit card' page, be sure to select "Non USA billing address" to enable the international billing address format. If you do not see your country listed, please try shopping for travel on one of our international sites.

How will my flight tickets be delivered?

If you choose the e-ticket option and e-tickets are available, you will receive an email that includes your itinerary information and confirmation numbers. You will not receive paper confirmation, receipt, or tickets. When you check in for your flight, give the ticket agent your name and flight number, or provide a printed copy of your itinerary. You must always provide a government-issued photo ID.

If you do not choose e-tickets or if the e-ticket option is unavailable for your flight, you will receive paper airline tickets. Paper tickets will arrive within seven days, as indicated on your Billing and Delivery Information page. Expedia.co.uk charges a non-refundable £12.00 courier fee for paper tickets, which is applied to your credit card at the time of purchase.

What if my tickets are lost or stolen?

If your paper airline tickets are lost or stolen, please call us immediately at (0871) 226 0808. An Expedia.co.uk representative will assist you in processing a lost ticket application.

In most cases, the airlines require you to purchase replacement tickets at “today’s” fare. The Expedia.co.uk representative will facilitate the sale of these tickets. If your original tickets are not used after a designated period of time—generally 3 to 4 months, depending on the airline—you will receive a credit for the purchase price of the replacement tickets, less the application fee. This fee varies by airline, but is typically £75.00 per traveller. Please note that these policies and fees are subject to change at any time. The Expedia.co.uk representative will be able to provide the most recent information for your airline.

Each airline has its own rules and policies for issuing replacement tickets. Expedia.co.uk is bound by these rules and policies and must adhere to them.

Why did the fare change at purchase time?

Expedia.co.uk uses a real-time reservation database, the same used by travel agents worldwide, listing actual ticket prices and availability. As airlines fill flights or change fares, the database immediately reflects those changes. Always be sure to double-check prices when reserving or purchasing tickets, as the fare may have changed since you first searched for fares or created your itinerary.

What is Express booking and how does it help me?

Express booking is an option available to travellers booking roundtrip flights for one traveller only. When you register to use Express booking, you supply some basic information that we keep on file. Then, any time you decide to purchase a roundtrip ticket for one traveller, we’ll use the information from your profile to speed up your purchase and save you time online. You can create an Express booking profile for yourself, as well as each of your friends and family members. That way, you can Express book a ticket for someone else.

I just tried to reserve or purchase a flight, or reserve a rental car. Why was I told to try again in 5 minutes?

This notice appears when you double-click on the Purchase or Reserve links. Only one click is necessary on any link in Expedia.co.uk. Please wait 5 minutes and try your reservation again.

What if I need to change my flight arrangements?

If you need to change your flight arrangements less than 24 hours before the flight, call Expedia.co.uk at the telephone number listed on your itinerary. To cancel or change a reservation or purchase, see When plans change.

How can I enter special discount plans, like free tickets (due to redeeming frequent flyer mileage), government employee discounts, etc?

Right now, Flight Search and Lodging Wizard allow you to enter your frequent flyer and frequent guest plan numbers. Car Search allows you to enter the numbers for any frequent car hire plans to which you belong, or the discount codes appearing on vouchers or available through organisations that offer special travel benefits. You should receive whatever discounts apply to those programs.

The current version of Expedia.co.uk is not able to process free ticket options or car upgrades from frequent flyer programs. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you, but we are researching ways to handle these options for future versions of Expedia.co.uk.
