Using itineraries to plan your travel
When you use Expedia.co.uk to make a reservation or tell us you want to save information, the details about a flight, car hire, or hotel room are stored in an itinerary for you. An itinerary is like a folder that holds the flight, car hire, and/or hotel information for each trip. You may keep up to 10 itineraries on file in My Trips . Expedia.co.uk’s itineraries are more than just lists of your travel reservations, however. They offer a number of options and a range of information useful to continuing and expanding your travel planning.

Click a topic below to quickly find the information you want.

Flight, car, and hotel options

Each itinerary lists the flights, cars, or hotels you have saved information for. Each listed item includes the following:
  • Status: The state of the itinerary item, i.e., "not reserved", "reserved", "purchased" or "ticketed".
  • Details: Pertinent travel dates and times, and supplier names (such as airlines or hotels).
  • Cost Summary: A short description of the item--a flight, car, or hotel--along with price information.
  • Rules & regulations: Rules that apply to the itinerary item.

At the bottom of each item, you are given the opportunity to reserve, purchase (flights only), change, or cancel. These options provide you with the flexibility you need to save travel information, and to avoid extra flight, car, or hotel searches if you decide the selections you have made suit the needs of your trip.

Remember that flight reservations will be saved only until midnight of the day following the day your reservation is made. Unless you make a ticket purchase, your reservation will be cancelled at that time.

Adding and deleting items on your itinerary

Near the top of your itinerary under What else can we help you with?, you'll find convenient links that allow you to add a flight, hotel, or car to your itinerary. You may not add a flight to an itinerary which already contains a flight, but you can add cars and hotels. You may always delete reserved items; deleting items will automatically cancel the reservation. For information on cancelling a ticketed flight, see our help about When plans change.

Changing reserved or purchased itineraries

You can always find information about changing reserved or purchased itineraries in the Service Centre . Look under the heading When plans change.

Adding maps and driving directions

Expedia understands how important it is to help find your way around your destination city, so we allow you to add maps and driving directions to your trip itinerary. Click Add a map or Add driving directions under Destination Services in the left column of the itinerary. Once added, you can view them by clicking Trip maps and routes.

Destination information and services

When you save information in an itinerary, Expedia checks the Destination Guides to see if we have information on your departure points and destinations. If information is available, we'll add links to your itinerary so you have convenient access to all the details in the Destination Guides about where you're going and what to do when you get there. Look for these links in the upper left column of your itinerary.

Printing your itinerary

Printing your itinerary is easy. Open the itinerary you would like to print and click Show printable itinerary in the left column. You will see a simplified version of your itinerary complete with all of the information you'll need to take along with you on your trip. Next, simply click the print button on your browser or select Print... from the browser's File menu.

Emailing your itinerary

Travel is more fun when you can share it with others. When you find a great fare, the right hotel, or a good deal on a rental car for your trip, our email feature lets you send your itinerary to friends, family, and business associates so you can share your travel plans. It’s an especially useful option when you’re trying to coordinate travel from many departure points to one destination, or when you want to make sure the people you’re visiting have all your pertinent travel information. To email any itinerary, click Email itinerary in the itinerary’s left column under Itinerary options and follow the instructions.

Saving your itinerary to a calendar program

If you use a calendar program to organise your schedule, it's easy to save an Expedia.co.uk itinerary to the calendar on your PC or laptop. First, open the itinerary you would like to save. Then, click Save to calendar in the itinerary's left column. If you have a supported calendar program installed you will be given the option to save the itinerary as an appointment. When you open your calendar program the trip itinerary should appear on your calendar beginning on the date of the start of your trip.

In order to save your trip itinerary to a calendar, you must have a vCalendar-compatible program installed on your PC. The vCalendar format is an Internet standard for exchanging calendar and schedule information. The following popular calendar programs support the vCalendar format:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000
  • Lotus Organiser 6

Note: Remember to update your calendar if there are any changes to your itinerary. Otherwise, the information on you calendar will be out of date.
