Find a map
Finding the spot you're looking for begins with choosing to either Search for a place or Search for an address or intersection (available for U.S. addresses only).
- Use a place search to find a city, geographic feature, or landmark (examples: Minneapolis, Lake Victoria, Eiffel Tower), or to find any location outside the United States.
- Use an address or intersection search when you want to find a specific street address or intersection in the United States.
Once you've entered the information about the location you're searching for, Expedia.co.uk takes you directly to the map if there's an exact match. If there is one or more possible matches, you will be prompted to choose the most appropriate one from a list. If you change your mind and want to choose a different map on the list, just use the Back button in your browser.
Tips on finding an address or intersection
- You must enter a street address and a geographical region like city to get results. If you do not have a street address to search by, use the Find a place search.
- If you aren't sure of the correct spelling of a street or city name, and if there's not an exact match for what you type, Expedia.co.uk will show you a list of possible choices.
- Type either the number and street name of the address you want to locate, or the names of two intersecting streets separated by an ampersand ( & ), the word "and", a slash ( / ), or a plus ( + ).
- Omit fractions. For example, if the address is 654 1/2 Carlson Street, just type "654 Carlson Street".
- When typing a numbered street, avoid inserting a space between the number and the suffix. For example, type "85th" instead of "85 th".
- Don't include apartment, suite, post office (P.O.) box numbers, or rural route (R.R.) addresses in the street address. You can use abbreviations such as "St" for street and "Ave" for avenue. For a list of abbreviations, see Abbreviation Quick Reference.
- Generally, an address includes a street number followed by a street name. If you are searching for an address in which the name precedes the number (for example, Wallace Road 94), use an underscore character (_) instead of a space before the number (Wallace Road_94). This lets Expedia.co.uk know you are looking for a street number and not an apartment number.
- If you're searching for a county, state, U.S. highway, or interstate, use standard notation such as CR-22, SR-40, US-101, or I-5.
- If a street name includes an ampersand (&), replace the ampersand with the word "and".
- If Expedia.co.uk does not recognise a place name that includes an abbreviation, try spelling it out. For example, try "Saint James" if "St. James" is not recognised.
Note: Our address matching is among the best available, but occasionally we can't locate an address or the address in our database is wrong. If Expedia.co.uk did not find the address you entered, please let us know by sending us feedback.

Tips on finding a place
- Before you enter a place to search for, choose the appropriate region: North America, Europe, or World. (Hint: Select World when you want to see topography on your map.)
- When you enter the name of the place, be as specific as you can. For example, enter the name of the country or state along with the city. If you are searching for Paris, France, be sure to enter "Paris, France" and not just "Paris". Otherwise, the search finds a list of many locations that include "Paris."
- You can use some abbreviations such as Mt. for mountain, but it's best to spell out the entire place name. For a list of abbreviations, see Abbreviation Quick Reference.
- if you aren't sure of the correct spelling of a place, don't worry. If there's not an exact match for what you type, Expedia.co.uk will show you a list of possible choices.
Getting driving directions
You can get turn-by-turn driving directions on Expedia.co.uk, between:
- Street addresses in the United States
- Cities or other places in North America
- U.S. street addresses and other places such as cities in North America
Complete the Start and End forms on the Driving Directions page to get text directions, a map of your route, turn-by-turn instructions, the distance you travel between turns, and a time estimate for each leg of the route. You may also select the type of route you want: quickest, shortest, or scenic, and choose between miles and kilometres, before you start your search.
After a route has been calculated, you can reverse the route by using the Reverse this route option at the bottom of the page. Expedia.co.uk puts your entire route on the map.
Tips on using driving directions effectively
- Be as specific as you can. Include the name of the place and the state or province. If you aren't sure of the correct spelling of a place, don't worry. If there's not an exact match for what you type, Expedia.co.uk will show you a list of choices.

Get Driving Directions.
Viewing and moving the map
Once a map appears, click any of the triangle-shaped buttons in the Map Mover control, to the right of the map, and the map will move in the direction indicated by the triangle you clicked. Use this method whenever you want to move the map a short distance at a time.
Centring a point on the map
If you want a place in the center of your map, just click on it. Once you center a place, it remains in the middle while you zoom in and out.
Returning to the original view
The square button in the center of the Map Mover centers the map around the location you originally searched for.
Zooming in and out
Using the Zoom Level control, you can adjust your map view to be farther from or closer to the Earth's surface. Zooming out (away from the Earth) means you will see a broader area of the map, but less detail. Zooming in (closer to the Earth) will reveal more detail over a smaller region.
- To zoom out, click the magnifying glass button that contains the minus (-) sign. The red bar indicates the current distance from the Earth's surface. You can also zoom out by clicking any horizontal bar above the red bar. The shorter the bar that you click, the more distant your view of the Earth.
- To zoom in, click the magnifying glass button that contains the plus (+) sign. The red bar indicates the current distance from the Earth's surface. You can also zoom in by clicking any horizontal bar below the red bar. The longer the bar that you click, the closer your view will be to the Earth.
Overview map
The Overview map, above the Zoom Level and the Map Mover, shows you a broader view of the area displayed on the main map. You can't move or zoom this map—it's simply here to help you keep your bearings.
Printing a map or route
Once you've found a map or created a route, you can print your map or route to take along with you.
To print a map or route, use your browser's print function to print the page you are viewing, or click Print this map or Print this route above the map, which will display a printable version of the map or route only. Then use your browser to print this page.
Note: Remember that copyright laws apply.
Saving a map or route
After you find a map or route, you can easily save them by clicking Save this map or Save this route (above the map) or by selecting Save to My Maps & Routes (at the bottom of the page). To view your saved maps and routes, just click My Maps & Routes from the navigation bar located on the top, left-hand side of every page.
You can save up to 5 maps and 5 routes. If you try to save more than the maximum number, you'll be prompted to remove one from your list. To remove saved maps or routes from your My Maps & Routes page, check the box(es) to the left of a map or route, and then select Delete selected items.
If there are no saved maps or routes in the list:
- You haven't saved any maps or routes yet.
-or-
- Information about your saved maps and routes is stored on your personal computer. You will not find them if the computer you're using now is not the one you were using when you saved your maps and routes.
-or-
- You are logged on as a different user now than when you saved your maps and routes (Microsoft Windows only). Microsoft Windows stores your information on a per-user basis.
-or-
- You are using a different Web browser than you were when you saved a map or route. Sometimes when you switch Web browsers, your saved maps and routes do not appear. If you use the same Web browser you used when you saved items, they should appear in the list.

- You deleted the personal information, or cookie, that your computer uses to save maps and routes. When you delete this information, your maps and routes are no longer accessible.
Emailing a map or route
To send a map or route to someone via email, just click Email this map or Email this route (above the map). You don't need an email program to send a map or route, providing your recipients have email programs and accounts of their own. Then fill in the form and click Send. Expedia.co.uk will embed a link to your map or route in the message that is sent to the recipient(s) you specified.
