Definitely 5 Star

If you can afford to pay a little extra, this hotel has got to be one of the best in Venice! It was easy to find... others, located in the main islands, can only be located by obscure alleys and tiny stairwells. The staff were extremely helpful. The room was comfortable, temp controlled by thermostat. We used the vaporetto (water bus) for all our travel, and the bus stop is right nearby. We stayed for one week, and the hotel was like our beautiful home. The bed is two mattresses put together, like the other reviews had said, but we’re used to a kingsize and we had no problem with the bed. We didn’t eat at the hotel all, but we’re cheap. We found a grocery store down the island to get snack food. The spa is expensive, but I highly recommend having at least ONE treatment so that you may experience the beauty and mystique of the environment. We paid extra to have the WiFi access, and we found it to be very dependable with a strong signal. I paid more for a lagoon view, and it was also something I recommend. I spent a little time each night watching the boats, hearing the waves, and listening to the people on the street below.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Buy vaporetto 3-day passes, the best value. Also, if you are from the US, take outlet adapters for your plugs. Venice has an outlet that is standard to Europe. If you stay at the Bauer Palladio, take time to explore the hotel. There are many beautiful features of the building.

Wonderful Venetion Hotel

We spent 5 nights here, and would love to return to this hotel. It’s quiet, very tastefully decorated and in a wonderful position. The staff were terrific and could not have been more helpful. They were not just multi-lingual but multi-multi-lingual and so eager to please. There was a lovely secluded garden, as well as a rather fine patio, where you could sit and have a drink or just relax. From the outside, it is not at all obvious that it is a hotel, there was a really discrete sign regarding "Small hotels of the World" and that was it. Fortunately we had a picture downloaded from Expedia, and we recognised it from that. Would we return, you bet we would.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get a 7 day ticket for the Vaperetto (water-buses. It saved a lot of time and money - really good value!

A welcoming and luxurious place to stay in Venice

My wife and I stayed at the Bauer Palladio in October and were both enoromously impressed by the hotel. The staff were both professional and unfailingly friendly, the hotel and rooms stylish and very comfortable. There was a good breakfast and plenty for facilities. The shuttle boat service is an excellent feature, running guests to and from the Bauer Palazzo by St Marks Square. It’s an electric boat so more environmentally friendly than most diesel launches, and although the ride is a bit choppy, this makes for a very useful service. All, in all, a great place to stay if you can get it for the rates we did, and highly recommended.

Good trattoria on Giudecca, Altanella, down a lane and looking out onto the main canal bisecting the island. Easy to find and well known. Delicious seafood- although there’s no virtually no meat on the menu.
