A relaxing stay
We chose the Grasmere House Hotel because of its location and easy access to the centre of Salisbury. We had just spent a hectic few days at Legoland Windsor and wanted somewhere to relax, to see the sights of Salisbury before heading off for a weeks holiday in Cornwall. The Grasmere House Hotel wasnt cheap but it was located on the southern side of Salisbury within walking distance of the centre and it had ample secure car parking in its grounds. The hotel is a lovely country house with sweeping gardens down to the river with beautiful views, over open countryside to the cathedral. We booked a family room for my wife and I and our 2 kids aged 9 and 5, the room was very large and comfortable with an ensuite wet room, very smart. There was a small bar and a guest living room to relax in. Breakfast was buffet style with ample choices and plenty of it, held in the conservatory overlooking the gardens. We didnt take evening meals in the hotel as we wanted to sample the sights of Salisbury but the menu looked very nice. The staff were friendly and polite and overall we had a very pleasant couple of days. One of the good things for me was the location, just being able to leave the car and walk into Salisbury along riverside footpaths and the old city walls. A lovely country house with a relaxed atmosphere, would highly recommend.
Avoid the city by-pass during morning and evening rush hour - very busy, take the country lanes if possible.

Nice Hotel at a Low Price
Good experience with this hotel. Price was reasonable. Very nice staff upgraded our room to one with a beautiful view since the room wasnt booked. Rooms were clean, although somewhat dated, but thats expected for a converted Victorian mansion in the UK. Hotel was very beautiful from the outside and the grounds were very pretty. Seemed to be a nice spot for weddings. Nothing really seemed in walking distance, but we had a rental car and our main purpose was a place to stay on our way to Stonehenge. Breakfast was included and was good.

Decent hotel in great location
The hotel setting is beautiful and the staff were very hospitable. We booked the family room - we were told the room could accommodate 4 people - it really cant. It was incredibly cramped, like being in summer camp and should really only accommodate 2 people. The dining room is fine for breakfast, go somewhere else for dinner. The amenities in the room were very nice overall.
