Slight slip in standards, but nice hotel overall

Third time at this hotel, and have to stay I still think the location is the best thing about this hotel. After being out all day, we came back each afternoon about 3ish for a nap before heading out for tea. Because it’s away from the touristy areas, you really do feel as if you’re heading home, away from the hustle and bustle. No bar or restaurant this time, a bit of a shame as it is nice to have these options, especially in a 4 star hotel, but there are very good local bars nearby, and we love the Ristorante Diana near the hotel - we discovered it on our first trip and go every night for our tea! A nice hotel, getting a little shabby around the edges, but the location is superb.

A 4 Star hotel only if a Motel 6 is also a 4 star hotel.

This is not a 4-star hotel. I would be curious to find out how it became listed as one. The service was fine, no complaints there. The breakfast was good. The room was terrible. My wife and I are extremely low maintenance. We never complain about anything. At this place, we got to our room, sat there for a few minutes depressed with how much we were paying for this place, then walked door to door at other hotels hoping to find one that had a cancellation so we could move over there. Complaints about the room (a few off the top of my head): - Marks, smears, stains ALL OVER the walls. I’m not talking scuffs from carrying luggage or marks down by the baseboards, these are disgusting, unidentifiable smears at various heights on the walls. Like somebody used the walls for the personal napkin over a period of several weeks. - The furniture is old and falling apart. The "desk" had obviously been wet for an extended period of time and the laminate was bubbling off and peeling away. - The shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor. Not just a little bit. - The "satellite TV" that they hyped as a great system consists of about 10 channels on a 15 or so inch dinosaur. - The heated towel rack, another big selling feature of this "4 star" place, didn’t work. - The tile in the bathroom was mildewy and cracked. I tried to write many more, but it told me my review was too long.

Good hotel

The location of this hotel is excellent. Close enough to, but not in the middle of, the busy "honeypot" areas. Very tranquil at night. Very helpful staff and whilst smart and professional, not overly formal. Room nicely decorated and bed comfortable. Overall cleaning etc. fairly good except for the shower cubicle, which was rather "tired" and a few hairs on carpet on arrival which weren’t ours! Bath extremely slow to drain- this was reported to them. Lighting in bedroom and dining room dim, it is very hard to read by. Food very good at breakfast. Overall - would go back certainly.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The water buses (Vaporetto) are quick, frequent and a welcome means of saving your legs after a day of sightseeing. Cost effective compared to other modes of Venetian transport.
