Good, centrally located hotel.
We stayed at the Hotel Charsfield for 10 nights in January 2009. The hotel is very well located on St Kilda Road for both the City, Botanical Gardens and St Kilda itself. There are tram stops just over the road from the hotel or the City is around 20 minutes stroll away. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is of good quality with attentive staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and winelists. There is no gym on site but hotel guests can obtain a free pass from the reception for a gym which is just over the road. The only negatives are that there is no lift, which, although there is only one upper floor can be difficult when you are carrying your suitcases up/down the stairs, and the cleanliness of the rooms. Our towels were changed whenever we wished but the bathroom and room itself were not cleaned for the 10 day period we were there.
Traveller's tip on dining
Visit the Stokehouse restaurant on Jacka Boulevard in St Kilda (you can jump on a tram outside the hotel) for great Australian cuisine and a good wine list. The restaurant fronts onto the beach and cant be beaten on a balmy Melbourne evening. We lived in Melbourne for 3 years and it really is to be recommended.

Review charsfield Boutique Hotel, Melbourne
We stayed 3 days here and were completely satisfied with the accomodations and especially with the helpfulness and professionalism of the staff. Breakfasts were sumptuous. Fine restaurant for evening meals, also. We highly recommend the Charsfield !

Loads of character
Good location - can walk into town thru parks and along river. Relaxed, comfortable and very welcoming. We would like to have stayed for a longer period.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Park just across road and can walk thru more parks all the way into city - great views. No lift but only two floors in hotel
