Great and Getting Better

From the outside it was clear the hotel was being renovated, inside it was excellent. Clean, spacious and very friendly and helpful staff. The renovations turned out to be a huge increase in the size of the hotel, which despite a little noise, in no way spoiled our weeks stay. There will be an indoor and an outdoor pool and a sun terrace which we used to watch the sunset over the mountains. The view from the room on the top floor was wonderful and the room was very large and bright. The balcony was quite small, but the new rooms - some of which were just being used for the first time, had large verandahs and wonderful showers. The buffet breakfast included fruit salad, real muesli and fresh figs and prickly pears. Lots of coffee and each day a different fruit tart. We could not manage lunch! The drive to the best local beaches [there are lots] takes about 15 minutes - take a picnic. Clean sand, glorious clear warm water.... can’t wait to return. THE LOCAL WALKS We found the walk from Cala Gogone to Cala Luna a bit hard in the heat, but still prefered to do the walk there and back. The local mountain treks are fantastic. CULTURE Don’t miss the Nurangh site above Cala Gogone, it is perched above a gorge with views up and down the coast.

The hotel food was the best we had on Sardinia and was excellent value. Vegetarians beware - the ’Vegetables in Oil’ is in fact a plate of tasty meats with a little vegetable garnish. I loved it, but I’m not a vegetarian. The local town had some places to eat, but we went to one, and other guests tried others and we all agreed that this is the best place to eat.

Pretty good

Liked the hotel - family run - really nice people. Good food etc. Booked a superior room which was very small - found out that the ’superior’ feature was the view. We noticed toward the end of our stay that other rooms were much bigger so might be worth asking about that. Other reviews, and the lonely planet guide, suggested that a pool would be available this year - but still being built along with extra rooms etc. so a bit noisy at times. Should be great when finished. Would go again

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Dorgali is not much of a town in itself but loads of things to see and do if you have a car (which really is essential)

Exceptional family run hotel

Nice to stay in a hotel which has most of the advantages of the big chain hotels and yet retains proper character. The owners obviously delight in attention to detail and have the comfort of their guests as a priority. The restaurant is excellent and the staff helpfull and pleasant.

Use the hotel as a base for exploring the coast and the archeological sites inland.
