Would stay again

Pinewood Hotel was everything it promised to be--clean, quiet hotel in the area surrounding Rome. As other reviewers have noted, a 4* hotel in Europe does not translate to a 4* hotel in the U.S...I’d put Pinewood at a solid 3. Getting around was a bit difficult but no fault of Pinewood--we were there during a transportation strike and buses were a bit hard to come by. The 49 to Piazza Cavour is convenient for getting to the city center (near Piazza Navona), and the metro is about a 10 minute walk. Cornelia (the metro stop) is near the end of the line so journeys can take a bit, particularly when transferring to the B line at Termini. However, can’t say enough about the hotel service--our flight was delayed and the concierge was very prompt in responding to us that our room would still be held, and they had a ready supply of maps to aid us in navigating the city. Overall, an incredibly friendly staff, even the maids! The breakfast was ample, and only on one day (when we came down 30 min before the end) was there a low variety of food. Great value for the money, especially with the breakfast.

Roma Pass is an EXCELLENT deal if you’re going to be staying between 3 and 5 days. Any longer and you’ll want the week-long travel pass, but the 3-day metro/bus pass and 2 free admits saved us a ton of money and time (you get to skip the line; very useful at the Colosseum!). Also, if buying single passes for the public transit, be sure to pick them up before your evening journey--a lot of the Tabacchi close before public transit does, and you may find yourself without a means of purchasing the tickets!

Fairly good.

Extremely pleasant and helpful receptionists. However, diappointed with room - slightly below expected standard with non-functioning jaccuzzi and water leaks.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Vatican city a must. Lots of attractions - ancient and modern. Excellent transport system and eating places.
