Disappointing

Maybe it was because it was the last night of an amazing trip, but our stay here wasn’t great. First they put us in a smoking room even though we had requested a non-smoking one (but quickly moved us), and then various things didn’t work inside the room (like the TV remote for example). It’s one of those things where you (the reader) might have a completely different experience, because the design of the hotel is incredible and they do their best to make it a 21st century place. But if you’re there on an off night, you notice how quickly things can break down. The staff was really nice, though.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The breakfast buffet isn’t bad. Make sure you have a non-smoking room. And you’re still on Hong Kong island (but somewhat out of the way, on the west part of the island).

Good value, but out of town

Modern "hip" style, but a bit souless. Efficient management and a buffet restaurant that’s better than it looks. Great room with a good view over the water. Cyberport is about 20 minutes from the city by taxi (about HK$50) or there’s a (expensive) minibus from the hotel. Big advantage is that it’s half the price of the mainstream hotels in the city and for that reason is an excellent value choice.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

The hotel is right by the bus station and HK buses are plentiful, cheap and a great way to see the place. Get an "octopus" travel card; cheaper and more convenient and it’s good for everthing apart from taxis; then use it to go on a ferry to Chung Chau Island and see some old style China - and eat good seafood.
