First impression of room wasnt my final impression
First impression of the room wasnt as nice as Id expected. The carpet looked worn and the bathroom also appeared older and worn. The beds, dresser, desk, alarm clock, TV, all were nice and more updated. I realized I didnt mind the older worn parts because they were very clean and in working order. The room was also part of a little house or cottage which had a patio out back. The hotel grounds were very quiet and peaceful. We had our own assigned parking spot. The restaurant staff was extremely professional and accomodating. The breakfast was very good. In a nutshell, the hotel was charming.

Great Stony Brook location
My experience at the TVI was outstanding. The woman who checked me in went out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed. Remember that the TVI was built in the mid 18th century -- so dont expect modern-day glamour. Its beachy--smell and all. But it is also very clean and well taken care of. The best thing is its location -- across from the Stony Brook post office (complete with "the eagle who flaps his wings"), the marina, and local Sand Street beach. Its so nice to be able to run over to take a quick walk on the pebbley strip of beach, or watch the sky change over the water as the sun sets. You dont get the full experience of Stony Brook if you dont stay at the TVI.

a very nice B&B
The Inn was very comfortable and very convenient to Stony Brook University - where I had business. The staff was very helpful and breakfast was more than adequate. There is a French restaurant that is part of the inn but there were other places to eat within walking distance and driving distance from the inn. All in all, the inn was reasonably priced and conventiently located. My room was adequate in size however, there are some rooms that are smaller. One has to remember that this was an old house converted to an inn. It is to be expected that some rooms would be smaller.
