Ok for a bed
Hotel is Ok if all you need is a bed for the night. Staff are all friendly and helpful but the room in which I stayed, was in dire need of refurbishment, especially the en’ suite, which had chunks out of the bath panel and paper coming off of the ceiling. When I was there, there was a dog in the adjoining room which barked when the staff came in the morning to clean.

a nice place to stay
The qualtity of service is good, very friendly staff ,the cleanliness and comfort of the room is good for a business traveler. When I would come back for a short stay in Newcastle Gateshead I would like to choose the "Swallow Hotel" in Gateshead again.

A bit tired but good value
I guess the newer hotels in the area have lured the conference business away but that seems to mean that the Swallow is giving good value to get people in. Decor could do with some tlc particularly in the rooms. We ate in the restaurant which I thought was too expensive for what it was but the service was prompt and friendly. There was a self serve menu that offered 3 or 4 choices of starter and mains at an excellent price but our day had been too long to queue behind the busload of pensioners who got there first.
