Good stay at Flora

Recently spent 6 nights at Grand Hotel Flora & had a good stay. I was using Sorrento as a base to travel around the area. I paid extra for a superior room which meant that I had a room at the back of the hotel with a lovely sea view-you could end up with a room to the front of the hotel which faces a main road and petrol station (not so pretty!)Friends also stayed in the hotel at the same time & they had a view of a wall. The hotel is 4 star but isn’t really anything special. The room was clean but you could tell that it’s beem a while since the place has been done up and is slighty shabby in places (In my room some light switches didn’t work and tiles cracked). My room was on the 4th floor & under the restaurant & due to the tiled floors it could be a little bit noisy at breakfast time with chairs being moved (does mean you have great views at breakfast time though!). The hotel has a great deep pool but it closes at 6 every night. There is also a daily charge to use the sunbeds (the deck chairs are free), though I think this is common in many Italian hotels. It is really central, only a 10 min walk to the centre & train station so ideal for travelling around the local area. If you stay in a hotel up in the hills you need to rely on buses or taxis (the road is not good for walking). The reception staff were really helpful & went out of their way to help. Overall I had a good stay at Grand Hotel Flora and it totally served my purposes, just don’t expect anything WOW!

Overrated and expensive

I stayed at this hotel for 4 days and thought they definitely are too expensive. They are pretty far from downtown and first room we had stayed was not obviously cleaned for a few weeks because furnitures had dust and there was a dead bug on the table. Also outside there was a ashtray with full of cigarretes. We requested room change and we moved to better room upstair from our initial 1st floor room and that room was descent. Restaurant staff are very friendly and some of them could be over friendly if you are a woman. Front desk staff is very unfriendly and unwelcoming.

Never again

Poor service overall. Not enough information readily available to residents. Although there is a pool, no information whatsoever was given as to how to get to it, opening and closing times. No information as to bar areas etc within the hotel. Only information given was the time breakfast was served and where to go for breakfast. Lacked tourist information, no booklets/leaflets displayed. Would not go there again
