great Dubai hotel
I know Dubai is a building site, but, for the time being at least, the Shangri-la does not suffer with this problem. I couldn’t fault the service nor the room we had, which was on the 30th floor.I ordered ice one night to take a drink, and from that day on,Ice was in our room every evening, along with complimentary fresh fruit and water. The staff are superb ( especially the concierge) and are always very friendly and courteous. We didn’t eat in the hotel ( breakfast especially is very expensive ) but what we saw looked good. Fantastic bars, especially ’Ikandy ’ which opens every evening out by the pool. A great holiday,which was enhanced by the rooms and staff at the Shangri-la. Would recommend for adults only though.
Traveller's tip on dining
’Frankies ’ at the Dubai Marina is a great Italian restaurant ( was actually voted the best in Dubai whilst we were in it; much celebrating going on ), and the Double Decker bar is great value for the traditional Friday Brunch.

Outstanding 5-star hotel
I was nearly dumbfounded to get this hotel at such a competitive price. Our client stays there so we were willing to pay the best rate I could find. I didn’t know hotels.com has connections outside the US. I even called the hotel to make sure they would honor the reservation. This hotel stay made a 15 hour flight incredibly gratifying. They take 5-star service excellence to a whole new level.
