Affordable and comfortable hotel in Sorrento

It’s only a 5 minute walk (10 with luggage) from the main strip in Sorrento. So you can easily get to the town and do all the touristy things, enjoy dinner, etc... without the late night noise, hubbub and crowding. The staff was gracious, friendly and extremely helpful. Their restaurant recommendations were spot-on. Some local restaurants that are out of the way will provide shuttle service to/from the hotel. The owner was able to provide us with detailed directions and instructions on where/how to catch trains/buses, to change money (including travelers cheques, etc... The AC was functional but often we were able to enjoy the night air and keep the balcony door open. Never ran out of hot water and breakfast was very good. One comment about noise. The hotel is a combination hotel/b&b and residential apartment building. Some of the local residents did tend to adhere to the local tradition of staying up very late and talking rather loudly.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

If you get the room with breakfast included in the rate, it’s worth it. It’s not your typical coffee and danish deal. Cold cuts, cheeses, yogurts, breads, fruits, juices, coffee, tea, etc... were all included. They also would make fresh pancakes and/or eggs.

Hotel Savoia -- living among friends

A friendly, informal set-up -- our room was not in the building in which the reception is situated, but in the next building. This was great -- it almost gave you the feeling of staying in your own flat in a traditional Italian building, since only some of the building belonged to the hotel. The room came with a little balcony, from which you could see glimpses of the other flats, and a bit of the lemon grove right next door. In the morning you need to go to the main hotel for breakfast -- which was probably one of the best I’ve had in an Italian hotel, and absolutely amazingly good value. The fresh, made-to-order pancakes are especially good, and a memorably unique touch. Service was friendly and always helpful, and the location fantastic -- useful little newsagent on one side, and a great Italian pastry and icecream shop on the other; just far enough from the tourist rush of Piazza Tasso, but a very easy walk both to the centre and the train station. Definitely recommended!
