Lovely Hotel, Great Staff, Area not the nicest around it
This is a really lovely small hotel - it is set in its own walled grounds, and it is a little oasis. The pools are huge and lovely. Restaurant is very good - lovely and relaxed when you eat outside, a bit formal when you eat inside (the lights are just too bright!) . Staff were great, really personal service. 18 rooms means its big enough so you dont feel like a B&B, but not huge and impersonal either. The area outside of the hotel (ie the 4 miles to syracuse) are quite offputting - quite untidy, litter, etc - but honestly, try to see past that, as this hotel is a gem.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Do make sure you visit Noto (15 miles away), which is just so special (and you must go to Bar Sicilia for a cake!). If you have the Dorling Kinderlsey book, however, avoid the trattoria dal carmine which is the only recommendation, and it is not great!

Great Countryside location
Stayed here for a long weekend in Sept 07. The best things are the grounds and the swimming pools. The gardens are really a botanical garden, although they are not massive it gives the impression you are in the middle of the countryside. Excellent resturant, breakfast very nice buffet - They have a selection of traditional italian pastries too (as well as a selection of italian cakes which were fantastic). The swimming pools are very nice, extremely clean. The hotel seems to host quite a few weddings, however we were not affected by wedding guests over running the hotel at all (not like an English wedding party). We just saw one of the grooms get thrown in the swimming pool. Would not hesitate to return to this hotel.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Really nice beach is a 2km car/cycle ride (they have cycles at the hotel) ride away. Reception will tell you how to get there. We enjoyed a swim there before breakfast. The water was the clearest Ive ever seen.

Stunning building and grounds
This hotel is very glamorous, huge grounds, beautiful main building, fantastic infinity pool. You enter the hotel thru a long shady tree lined drive and the impressive view of the house hits you. It felt like entering a film set! Our room was large, with 2 single beds together to make a big double. The bathroom was huge also, with a double sized shower, and set up for disabled access which made it quite cumbersome. On the down side there was no private balcony or seating area , the rooms were on the ground floor and lacking privacy. The aircon controls were screwed shut, so it could not be turned down to cold, so the large room was always warm (it was 45* every day we were there). The restaurant was expensive but the food was good, as was the bar (E16 for 2 gin and tonics). The hotel is also a wedding venue and there were 3 in our 6 day stay, this often means the grounds are less assessable. These were very exciting and an interesting insight into Sicilian culture tho. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
