Grand Visconti Palace, Milan. A Good 4 star hotel, would stay again.

I stayed here on business in June 2009 for two nights and I particularly chose this hotel because it was one of the few hotels in Milan that had a swimming pool. The hotel itself was nice, although it seemed they were using the lounge area as more of an art gallery than a grand seating area. It made it feel almost tacky, but luckily the room made up for that. The room was impressively large with high ceilings and well kept furnishings. The bathroom décor was not to my taste and the room just large enough for one person at a time, but fit for purpose! Buffet breakfast was included in our room rate and was good as European hotels go. There was a small hot buffet, cereal, fresh bread, pastries, meats and cheeses. Located in the South West part of Milan, the hotel was about a 2 minute walk to the nearest metro. The only really negative thing about my stay was discovering on arrival at the spa that for hotel guests it costs 15 Euros (for non-hotel residents it costs 25 Euros) to use the facilities during the week, with an additional 5 euros for a very fetching swimming cap if you had not brought your own with you. The facilities are free for hotel guests at the weekend and I was very glad that I had not paid 20 Euros the previous day, as this was the only part of the hotel that was beginning to look tired. As well as the swimming pool (which was a generous size for a hotel) there was a Jacuzzi (which was not working), a sauna (which had a very stiff door) and a steam room.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Definitely travel everywhere on the metro. As with most cities there is a lot of traffic in Milan, the Metro is cheap and easy to navigate. Milan is also small enough that it doesn’t take a long time to get anywhere, even if you are crossing to the other side of the city. Fly to Linate if you can, as it is much closer to Milan.

Great for a few days in Milan

If you’re visiting Milan for a few days on business or for pleasure this is a recommended hotel. It is very close to the Metro and only 4 stops from the Duomo so everything is very accessible. Hotel staff were delightful - conceirge couldn’t do more. Try the restaurant on the 5th floor (although finding it is interesting) great food at sensible prices. Enjoy - we’d go back for sure.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Use the public transport it is great value - a 48 hour pass for metro, tram and bus cost only 6Euros 50 and it gets you everywhere you need to go.

A warm and friendly hotel in a great location.

The hotel was in a great location and had a terrific spa, which would benefit from additional promotion on the web-site. The gym was well equipped and there is a good sized swimming pool. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

If you want to see the Last Supper, book a city tour, which guarantees you entry. Otherwise, it is very difficult and you have to book tickets well in advance.
