Fantastic Hotel

Booked a Superior room for 7 days - given room 210 which had 2 large balconies - facing east & south - great to open them both up and get a breeze blowing - but needed Air Conditioning overnight. Breakfast included very nice. Offered a deal for Hotel Evening Meal - 3/4 nights at set rate (wine extra) - good value for money. Catering staff were all truly outstanding. Hotel Pool rather small for swimmming - Pool Bar snacks does excellent Fish! You can go to the Lido below for a few Euros all day.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Funchal Bus stop just outside hotel to the left/right. Buy the ’Oyster’ style ticket on the bus, re-charge it down on Funchal sea front, and travel anywhere for 90 cents, no need for Taxis. Don’t hire a Car, but do go on the ’West Madeira’ all day tour - very very worth it.

Good Value

Nice location and easy walk to Funchal (about 40 mins stroll). Very quiet with nice sea view being adjacent to promenade. Lots restaurants nearby - must try Magic grill for great steaks, etc.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

A day trip (or half) to Porto Moniz is a must to watch the crashing waves (tides permitting), along with the relatively new cable car round trip to Monte from ’old town part of’ Funchal

Regency Cliff Hotel is exceptional

The room was very nice, not much on TV, but you don’t go to Madeira for TV. The staff were very helpful. The food was good, but very limited choice and not real wine list to speak of. I would go back and stay there, but there are just too many other places to go.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

For around 130 euros you can have a day’s taxi tour with a local cab driver. Using his local knowledge he can recommend nice places to stop and eat, as well as making the trip more fruitful by avoiding low cloud in the mountains and the occasional shower. Although it rained on the Island a fair amount, we managed to have sunshine all day due to the unique route he took.
