Nice hotel at a great location with a spectacular view of old Lisbon and the Castle

A very pleasant and modernized hotel with nice rooms and spectacular views of old Lisbon. Convenient to most sights and entertainment areas. Buffet breakfast has a good selection of fruit, dairy, cheeses, meats and breads. Great for a romantic getaway or exploration of old Lisbon.

Excellent base for Lisbon

The outside and Reception are un-prepossessing, but the accommodation floors are clean and spacious. Reception staff were always very helpful. Our room was large, extremely clean and comfortable, though with ocassional problems with the air-conditioning. The fresh fruit for breakfast was the best we have tasted since leaving Kenya 25 years ago. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the airport bus, 5 minutes from the metro and trams. Superb views over the city to the castle (from the bar and some rooms). Only real problem is the lack of restaurants in the immediate vicinity. If we go back to Lisbon, we would certainly want to stay here again.

Regency Chiado in May 2007

A great hotel with discreet but helpful staff on hand to help when you need it. Lots of genuine smiles and a lively barman in the upstairs bar that made everyone feel welcome. This is a small hotel so the atmosphere is relaxed and not for those who want a buzz of chatter and people watching. The only thing I could fault them on was the tea and coffee at breakfast which was neither hot nor particularly pleasant.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

Try a saturday evening/night in the Medieval Bairro Alto where the feel is like Rio with its bustling streets of locals and tourists all drinking and chatting on the tiny cobbled streets. A bit gritty at the edges and might put some off but definately has its own USP and we loved it.
