Great vacation

The hotel lived up to our expectations. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, with a nice view. The ocean was nearby and the pools were clean and well-kept. There was a snack bar at the pool that was open noon to 6 p.m. There were not any restaurants on the premises, so it was good to have kitchen facilities. But there are several(at least) decent places to eat within three miles. I would recommend the Hacienda Del Mar.

Beautiful, relaxing, no worries

Great hotel/timeshare. Great for families although we weren’t. Had two complete units with privacy but joined. Gorgeous views, clean, pleasant staff, beautiful pool and beach right there, and excellent restaurants within a very short driving distance. Would return. It’s my understanding that the condo next door will be torn down in the next few months and rebuilt. After that it will be fantastic, but I wouldn’t go while it’s being torn down.

Lovely & quiet holiday

Hotel met our expectations for being a very quiet and restful setting. All areas of the hotel and grounds were spotless. Hacienda Del Mar had a picture perfect beach and a lovely pool. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of good local restaurant choices within close proximity of the hotel. We would stay here again.

Great accomodations.

We stayed in a two bedroom suite and it was great, plenty of room/space for everyone.

Plan to bring supplies and food there are is no place to eat on the premises but plenty of restaurants and shopping areas close by.

Next Stop- Hacienda Del Mar

This hotel met my specifications in all ways. Firstly, the location and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are also beautiful and well- appointed. My room faced the ocean and the view was superb. The staff members are approachable and extremely helpful. They are fluent English speakers and it is evident that their primary objective is to make the customers comfortable. I am looking forward to staying there again possibly next summer. I highly recommmend this establishment.

This property is comfortable for travel with families, as it is spacious and has cooking accomodations.

Perfect getaway for R & R

We had a huge delay on the flight to Puerto Rico so we got to the property late and we did not care for our room. The staff was understanding and acted quickly. The next day while we were on the beach the front desk phoned and told us our new room was ready and it was exactly what we wanted. The beach was beautiful and private. The pool was also nice but we went to PR for the beach. The grounds were attractive even with the old Hyatt Cerromar Hotel fenced in next door. Renting a car is a must and everything you need is a 5 minute drive from the property including a new strip mall. The mall has a Starbucks, an Applebees, very decent family style pizza/Italian restaurant, a take out Chinese restaurant, a Wendy’s, a Popeyes Chicken and the best of all Sweet Ann Cakes.

Traveller's tip on dining

Two major tips. One is Sweet Ann Cakes at the strip mall. It’s a must. It’s new and immaculate. Great breakfasts and lunches, and the pastries and baked goods rival any bakery I’ve been to in New York City. I picked up breakfast every morning with cafe con leche, took it to our room and ate breakfast on the balcony. Second you must dine one evening at El Ladrillo in Downtown Dorado. It’s elegant and the menu is full of great local and international dishes.

Nice Beach!

Nice Hotel, great staff, nice beach and great snorkeling on the left side of the bay all the way out. Must rent a car to find nice restaurant and to visit the island: the rainforest is a nice trip and you can stop at the end to relax at Luquillo Beach.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Renting a car is a must.

My second time was just as good as the first.

Although some of the amenities have been closed off along with the hotel/casino next door, our stay was great. The staff at the resort are always friendly and helpful and the beach/water/snorkeling are exceptional.

It’s like a timeshare condo

The Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar hotel is really a timeshare condo. It has no restaurant and we had to go out to the surrounding town to eat. Since we do not speak Spanish, this was tricky at times. Also there is a much larger abandoned hotel that had shared its grounds with the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar. It is now a weedy, fenced off area cutting right through the edge of the grounds. However if you can overlook these deficiencies, the grounds and pool are nice, the ocean beach is scenic and ocean is swimming good. But for my money, the slightly more expensive nearby Embassy Suites was a much nicer place to stay, and includes a complimentary buffet breakfast to boot, thus mitigating some of the extra cost.

Quiet paradise

The hotel was nice and very clean. The rooms all included refrigerator, microwave. The service was excellent and everyone was incredibly friendly The pool area was beautiful and the hotel is on a private part of beach in a small cove. Overall, a very nice hotel.

Traveller's tip on dining

The hotel is somewhat secluded on the beach with no surrounding restaurants and only a beach grill during the day. Renting a car is a must!

Very Relaxing

Good value for the $$. Away from it all.

Get the one bedroom vs. the studio.

Beautiful Place to Stay

John and I really enjoyed are stay at the Hotel. The staff there was very nice and helpful. We had a car(take your gps) and went to rainforest, caves, tarpon fishing and local coffee plantation. Driving is crazy there so it was wonderful when we found out that there was a bus tour that would take you on different trips for a small fee. We went to Old San Juan and a trip to Marriott Casino. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Stop at the roadside places and eat at least once. We stop on the way back from the rainforest at a nice roadside place by a creek. The food was great. I drink was great. The price was cheap, cheap, cheap......

Quiet and beautiful

We would recommend this property for those who want quiet time away from the hustle. Small property now that the Hyatt Dorado is closed. The grounds are stunning and very well maintained, particularly the hot tubs and pool. Helpful hotel staff.husband and I chose this "hotel" which is really a one bedroom condo for the location to good golf courses. The lack of restaurants could be an issue if you didn’t have a car but there are taxis available. Very good hot tubs, pretty beach and lots of tennis courts but no one was playing on them. The golf is very expensive for the Dorado East and West courses. The Plantation and Sugarcane courses are just down the street and were fun to play. We preferred the Dorado Del Mar at the Embassey Suites for golf. Many more interesting holes and less expensive. For sightseers, the location is midway between the Caves and the Rain Forest. The golf is very expensive for the Dorado East and West courses. The Plantation and Sugarcane courses are just down the street and were fun to play. We preferred the Dorado Del Mar at the Embassey Suites for golf. Many more interesting holes and less expensive.

Traveller's tip on dining

Do go to the public beach area as there are two very good restaurants across from each other. From the Hyatt going East make a left at the Gulf gas station. The better food store is the Amigo.

Exciting getaway!

The hotel was fabulous. We checked in early and had no problems. We had a one bedroom condo with a great view. My fiance and I stood for three nights. Its not hard to get to from the airport (SJU). It was about a 30 minute drive. Best to go to the "Grande" (supermarket on 693) or Walgreens to stock up on food and snacks. Take advantage of the activities that the hotel has to offer. We played tennis and miniture golf. Poolside is the best. Make sure you have a pina colada. It was rich and had great flavor. It’s about 45 minutes from old san juan. You definitely need a car. Must go to a local restuarant called Morena’s. The food is delicious and prices are reasonable. They take reservations but walk-ins are allowed with proper attire. Our only concern with hotel was that they do check-out very early but, with enough notice they were able to accomodate us since we had a late flight. We’re ready to go back. Had a wonderful time.

Good resort for the price

I was very happy with this hotel. It has a very nice beach (though not as big as others I’ve stayed at in Puerto Rico), and the resort grounds are well-maintained. I was a little surprised that so much of the resort had been closed down for construction. We heard that they were planning on renovating or re-selling or doing something with the other part, so, if you go, don’t expect the construction to be gone. However, it was not really a hindrance at all on having a good time. The rooms are nice, though not any larger than a normal hotel room. They do have a small refrigerator, cabinets, and microwave, however, which is nice. Our room (on the sixth floor) also had a very nice view of the beach. Thankfully, all the rooms face the ocean, and have a nice little porch with chairs. Renting a car is definitely a good idea. We rented a car from near the airport in San Juan, and drove to Dorado, and around the town. It worked out really well. You might want to get the insurance, though, because Puerto Rican drivers are pretty crazy, and aren’t required to have insurance on their cars.

Traveller's tip on dining

The hotel always recommends "La Terrazza" as the first option for restaurants. This place is nice, but definitely set up for tourists. If you press the hotel staff, however, they will recommend some other really excellent restaurants around Dorado, especially some places with great mufungo.

We will be going back.

We all loved this place. We got the 2 bed-room and it was perfect for my husband, my parents, my son and I. Loved that they had free tennis, free putt-putt, snorkeling right off the beach and free planed activities for my son and us. It also was close to many things we wanted to do.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Rent a car and tour on your own. Many things are free or cheap. Take the ferry boat into Old San Jaun.

for the couple/family that wants peace and quiet

This "hotel" is truly more a rental condo facility with cleaning service. The coffee they offer in the morning is weak, but other than that, no one bothers you, they are very understanding, they let you check out late if given advanced notice and they don’t need the room- staff was VERY friendly and unlike the other reviews who said there were no supermarkets around- thats not true. Amigo, is just a few minutes away in the same parking lot of Carri bean Cinemas (movie theater) which was only 5.50 per adult. I’m not sure why the hotel doesn’t mention that they are located ona private beach and therefore there is seriouc beach access, but the pool is olympic sized, you can do laps daily and it has a play area as well. The security is top notch. The ovens for those of you who are kosher are self clean so you can make the kitchen very usable. We brought down our own pan but the kitchen does have all the pots and pans you could need.

Don’t shop at a Pueblo, go to Amigo- though prices are still high they are much lower!

Hyatt Hacienda de la mer, Puerto Rico, Excellent

Excellent accommodation; friendly staff; lovely pool and ocean & beach also fine. You have to like to cook at home (kitchen excellent), or have lots of money for taxis or rent a car.

Honeymoon

we went for our honeymoon and it was just great. staff is extremely polite and helpful. hotel’s beach is really really beautiful and clean. if you’re staying in this hotel please make sure you have a car, there is no other way to move around without one. there’s no restaurant but the one in the bar in the pool but this was fine. we just had a great time in puerto rico and definetely will stay again if we go back.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Taxis are very expensive so the best way is to rent a car, highways are easy to move on and there’s no way you can get lost with the front desk’s directions. Make sure to go to Culebra and Vieques Islands..they’re just beautiful !
