Fab hotel,customer service needs improvement!

We arrived late(pretty tired and dazed),were slightly shocked to find the reception area doubles up as a bar/club on the weekends with a dj set up infront of the check-in desk, the place was packed, any other night and we would have joined them!! We walked past reception at first as its pretty tucked away and dimly lit. No one at desk, we waited for 5mins before someone appeared. The staff are all young & attractive cool people but they arent the friendliest bunch. The lady at reception was not helpful or welcoming at all and struggled to hear her above the dj speakers. On a brighter note we were really pleased that we paid a little extra for the Superior Queen, decor was beautiful. The dressing room and walk in closet were an added bonus. Our room faced another buildingand there was a very loud generator about two floors below which was pretty loud and annoying. On calling the front desk the following morning to mention it they very kindly offered to move us to the 14th floor. After being out all day we returned to our bags having been moved for us which was a nice bonus! Overall the hotel is very trendy, the reception/bar area makes you feel like you are in a James Bond movie and it attracted the after work crowd through the week so always had a nice buzz. The guys on the door were always quite helpful with directions etc, but wernt always there so a couple of times we asked door staff at the hotel over the road.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Lower East side - try Nurse Betties or Employees Only. Highly reccommend a coach trip to Woodbury common shopping outlets on New Jersey, only an hour away, coaches leave from Port Authority Bus Station regularly and its well worth the $42 fare as there are tons of bargains to be had, we could just about carry all the bags back to the hotel!!!

Interesting Design

It’s midtown Manhattan, so don’t look for bargains. The lobby is like a secret hideaway with soft lighting, fine sleek fireplaces and low slung seating nestled along shadowed walls. The only downside, besides the prices, is it was dark. The hallways were like tunnels, you’ll need your cell for light.

Funky hotel for an office-y location

"cool" hotel (possibly a bit try-hard - would it kill them to raise the lights in reception a little more?) in what is an otherwise fairly boring location (midtown). Great if you are in town on business or plan to do sightseeing all over Manhattan, given its central location.
