Every inch the luxury boutique hotel

Stayed in Reid’s a couple of years ago and wanted to return to Madeira but try a different hotel. We were not disappointed with this hotel and it’s gorgeous as long as you didn’t want the sea views. The gardens were lovely and the hotel and setting were of a very high standard but I wouldn’t necessarily book the superior room again as they only had deckchairs, whereas the standard rooms had sun loungers which in the Spring makes a difference because of where the sun hits the rooms! The food was of an exceptionally high standard and the service always friendly. The restaurant, which you need to book for the evening meal, was wonderful and up there with the best London restaurants. Lovely relaxing stay in pretty surroundings and would go back.

Traveller's tip

Book the standard room if you go in Spring as the sun hits these rooms all day but doesn’t hit the Superior rooms until later in the day.

Fantastic Hotel

It isn’t the comfortable rooms, the beautiful gardens or even the scrumptious breakfasts that make this hotel one of the few we have ever gone back to (although they all help) - it is the people. Everyone who works at the hotel is friendly, helpful and generally lovely. The guest lounge, the plentiful supply of novels and the spa area make even a rainy day a pleasure!

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

if you want to travel up to the middle of the island, it’s possibly better to go in the morning as it can get misty / foggy in the afternoon

Just perfect!

We spent a wonderful relaxing week at the Quinta Casa da Branca in January 2009. It was a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the beautiful gardens, fabulous food, and stunning modern architecture of this gem of a hotel. Our room was superbly comfortable with a glass door leading straight onto a private terrace with wooden loungers. All the staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful and we can’t wait to go back!

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get out of the capital to see the real sights of this beautiful island. Buses are plentiful and cheap and will take you to to gardens, levada walks and most of the other towns and villages. The views are truly breathtaking.
