A comfortable and relaxing hotel on the slopes of Mount Etna

The Villa Paradiso can be difficult to find if arriving by rental car, but it is well worth the serach. The Hotel is in the grand style, in pleasant gardens, plenty of off-street parking, and well-furnished, comfortable rooms - ensure yours has a balcony and view of Etna. The facilities - there is a pool and fitness centre - are good, and the hotel is well placed for touring around Etna and the North-East of Sicily. The food is first-class, the wine list comprehensive. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace, and all other meals can be eaten out of doors under clear summer skies. All this makes for an excelent break.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The less visited western side of Etna makes a great day out by rental car - try Bronte, centre of the pistacchio industry, and Nelson’s Castle.

Great Hotel! Questionable location?

The Villa Paradiso is a beautiful period hotel, with fantastic friendly and helpful staff. We stayed at the beginning of the season, Early May, and it did feel to us that the hotel was not fully up and running. For eg the pool needed cleaning (leaves and other dirt) although towards the end of our stay it had been cleaned. The gardens were tended daily and were delightful. It is an old style hotel and the rooms did appear quite dark with dark but lovely furniture, floors and quite heavy curtains blocking the light. The view from our room was excellent.... we even saw Etna erupting on our first night... amazing!! The plumbing is Italian.. so expect occasional problems! The food in the evening was EXCELLENT (try the set menu), which was fortunate as we struggled to find anywhere to eat in the vicinity as everything was closed. There is nowhere within walking distance that we found. The breakfasts were great with ’real’ fresh coffee and very friendly waitress. Fresh fruit, Hams, cheeses, cakes, warm croissants and pastries, so many yogurts and cream cheese varieties to choose from.

Traveller's tip

A great Hotel if you a passing through Catania, because we were not impressed with the area.
