Very good hotel as long as you stay in the old part
The old part of the hotel (in the main building) is excellent. The new part is ultra modern and is targetted at business travellers who are only staying for short periods. For example the room has no hanging or draw space. It is very gloomy with back lighting all round the room. No main lighting!! The walls are black or stainless steel. There is a disco in the basement of the new part which will be very noisy until the early hours. (It is well away from the old part of the hotel). We insisted on being moved to the old part of the hotel which we found very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and the food was of a high standard. Get an E mail confirmation that your accomodation is in the old part of the hotel or cancel your booking. Catania was not very good but its location to the motorway network was very useful for seeing the island.
Traveller's tip on dining
The hotels restaurant was of a very high standard. Ther is a fixed price menu which had a reasonable selection or a la carte. As they only change the menu once a week you may wish to try a restaurants in Catania. They only start opening after 8pm and most are near the Via Ethea.

Dissapointing
I was very dissapointed with the hotel. In our first night the hotel hosted a corporate event for a pharmaceutical company which lasted untill 1.30 am (loud live music in the garden). At midnight I asked the porter to find another room for us which was kindly declined. The following night , the hotel hosted a party for some rich kids who let fly in some djs from London. The event room, situated below our room was turned into a club until 2 am. We could find no sleep After some nasty phone calls and another complaint the next morning we were offered a suite in the old part of the hotel. Very nice indeed but the previous nights spoilt the experience.
Tip: When you check in, make sure that there is no event planned. If so, Insist on a room in the old part of the hotel.

Room completely different to pictures
I booked two nights last minute here and I believe if your room is on special offer you dont get any of the rooms pictured on the expedia website... completely different, old fashioned, but clean just the same. One member of staff at the reception was very nice on arrival but her replacement on the night shift was moody and made no attempt to remedy my broken satelite tv box. I was on my own so really wanted to watch a movie. Also this hotel is only for those who are willing to take a cab to go anywhere due to its’ location. OH, and the swimming pool does not get sun until midday, not ideal..
