Great place to relax

A really good place to spend a few days, particularly if you have just spent some time rushing around Lisbon. The hotel is excellent, rooms large and comfortable, breakfast amazing and the food in the evening very good indeed. All staff really helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The only downside is getting back to Lisbon airport as it costs 50 Euros by taxi but we used the train back to Lisbon, the tram and then the airport shuttle bus. It was all very easy and took us about an hour and a half! We would definitely recommend the hotel - and the sea views are wonderful. Visited October 09

We spent the autumn half term there and the weather was 25/26 degrees so very pleasant to sight see.

Definitely going back!!

This was our fourth stay in this hotel and we enjoyed every minute of it. Cascais is a lovely place and the Vila Gale is a great hotel! The rooms are comfortable, the food is good and the staff could not be more helpful or friendly!

Traveller's tip on local attractions

The train to Lisbon is frequent and cheap, so you can visit the city easily whilst having a lovely holiday in the sun!

Top Location for Family Break

Just returned from a 5 day break at this hotel with our two year old and had a fantastic time. The hotel is modern, spotless and very well run. We had a Superior Junior Suite with sea views and separate living room, which was brilliant for giving us space when we put our little girl down for bedtime. Well worth the extra expense. The pools and grounds are very well kept. Breakfast was good variety. Cascais itself is very pretty, fairly quiet - lots of good restaurants and bars, with a pretty marina. Plenty to occupy a family for a week. A day trip to Lisbon is easy to do - 40 mins into central Lisbon by train for Cascais train station. Recommend Gordinni’s Italian restaurant at the marina and don’t miss the municipal park behind the hotel itself.

Just Right!

This hotel is a very pleasant 5 min - max 10 minute walk into Cascais. Location is alongside a trendy Boutique hotel and a stylish 5 star hotel so it’s great to be able to po into those for a drink or meal to vary your stay. We were on the third floor and our room was newly refurbished as I understand most are - certainly looked this way when you walked past other rooms that wer being cleaned. Staff were excellent. Breakfast is a fantastic spread of everything you could wish for and even a chef station where the chef makes your eggs, omlettes etc to oder infront of you. International selection of guests too which was nice.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Take the train from or too Lisbon. Only takes 30 minutes and costs a bargain 2.20!

Good resort hotel

We took a junior suite, but upgraded to a superior junior suite when we realised that we didn’t have a sea view - only an extra EUR15- per night. Nice big rooms - quite acceptable accommodation. Breakfast included and very good. Hotel well located for strolls along the "prom" or to the Marina - 15 minutes or so walk into town.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure to visit Sintra and surrounding area, and Lisbon is great (we stayed in town after Cascais).

Would definately go back

This was a lovely hotel, it was very clean and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a problem with our air conditioning, it worked for a while and then it would stop working. We complained 4 times but the problem was not fixed which meant we had to sleep with the windows open which meant the noise from the bar opposite was even louder. Not a huge problem as we were on holiday and did not have to get up early for anything! However a peaceful and cool nights sleep would have been nice! However the hotel is very close to the main town and the pool area was lovely. The food at breakfast and lunch was brilliant didn’t try dinner so can’t comment on that. The staff speak excellent english.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel is very close to the main centre of Cascais, there are lots of eating places in the main centre. We didn’t hire a car and didn’t feel at all hindered by it and found the public transport very cheap and easy to get around on. The steak on the stone speciality is definately worth a try!!

Pleasantly surprised

After reading some of the reviews prior to booking we were a little apprehensive because the hotels own literature seemed impressive (why should’nt they?). We were not dissappointed, good location, excellent grounds and pool area, all public areas well laid out and clean. We had a room on the back over-looking the main door, the bathroom could do with a make-over. Should we return we would request a pool view room which I believe have all been upgraded. But would need a silencer for the Lighthouse fog-horn on misty mornings.

Highly recommended

Recently refurbished upper floors, this hotel was immaculate, modern and spotless. Of particular note - The sea views were spectacular, food endless and of a high quality and the pool and garden areas beautifully kept, peaceful and spotless again. Highly recommended both for couples and families.

Traveller's tip on shopping

With a couple of exceptions, the local’ boutiques’ in the town were very expensive/ overpriced. The local indoor shopping arcade was more reasonable and provided value for money.

2nd Year on the Trot at Vila Gale, Cascais

Only two criticisms: a)On arrival, our room wasn’t ready until after 14-25. b) Like so many other hotels the ban on "Saving Sunbeds" is not properly enforced. People were putting towels on beds at 08-30 in the morning and not showing again until after mid day. Throw their towels away!!!!!

Traveller's tip on dining

Most eateries at the Marina are good with Latitude 38 having a fantastic evening view. Their Surf and Turf wasn’t as good this year though. If you can find Reijos in Cascais their food and service was superb. Avoid the restraunts in the square where the waiters pester you for business.

Nice hotel....

but majority of staff were unhelpful and lacked customer service skills. Hotel itself is very nice, rooms are nicely decorated and ample in size. Nice sea views from balcony (if you have upgraded your room). Distance from shops, bars & restaurants was approx 15-20 min walk which we found wearing. Hotel bar ok as an alternative but not on a regular basis. Did not eat in the hotel other than breakfast, which was worth getting up for.

Traveller's tip on dining

The Palm Tree bar/restaurant in town is geared for tourists but great food and service - give it a go!

Would go back next week if poss!

Make sure you request sea view, and one of the refurbished rooms. We have just returned, four couples. Men plyed golf, girls shopped and drank to much! We will be returning next year for more of the same. Great location.

Traveller's tip on dining

Breakfast in hotel wasnt up to much, but lots of great restaurants in Cascais.

Impressive

Spacious rooms and bar. Clean and well decorated. Staff very helpful. Choice and quality of cold breakfast items was excellent. Hot food at breakfast was disappointing. Nothing was cooked to order; it was just left under a heat lamp for hours. After 9.00 the food was cold. Overall a good hotel to which I hope to return in the future.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

Conveniently located for the golf courses at Quinta Da Marinha but less convenient for the restaurants, shops and railway station of Cascais.

Excellent value hotel

Hotel Vila Gale Village exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. The rooms (we had a sea view room) were large with plenty of room to put all your belongings. The view from the balcony was lovely and relaxing. The hotel is a 10/15 minute walk to the centre of Cascais. This was an easy walk with lovely views. Cascais is a beautiful place with a good choice of restuarants even though it was out of season. Everyone was very friendly. Overall I would recommend this hotel and destination and would return their myself sometime in the future.

Traveller's tip

The train into Lisbon takes 40 minute and is cheap. Beware though there are no toilets on the train or at Lisbon station!

Good value for money

Large, comfortable rooms with king-seze bed and very little traffic noise at night. Soundproof! Well positioned for exploring Cascais and local area. Very helpful staff. Small pool adequate for us but not suitable for serious swimmers or boisterous teenagers. Good breakfasts and evening meal good but not outstanding as mostly buffet-style [a pet hate!]

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Don’t need to hire a car. Take the bus to Sintra and return by longer coastal route, stopping off at Cabo da Roca. Take the train to Lisbon. 1.20 euros - honestly! Taxis are very cheap. Good walk along promenade to Estoril.
