Price makes this the Best "Closest" hotel to Yosemite

I made last minute plans to drive to Yosemite to hike Half Dome. This was the closest hotel outside of the park at which I could get a reservation. I found the room to be more than adequate. I had a mini fridge which was very useful. Although I did not try it, there is an onsite restaurant, which would minimize having to get in the car everytime it was meal time. Staff was very helpful and nice. There was no internet availability in the room, but wireless was available for purchase to use in the lobby.

There is nothing else within walking distance. The road to the park entrance is two lane and winding, with the possibility of bear and deer suddenly appearing, so the speed is slow. There is one gas station between the hotel and the park, which also has mini stop type store. Price for gas is high, as would be expected. The sister hotel, Yosemite Lodge, is closer to the park entrance and has a restaurant as well as a pizza place (I really liked the pizza I picked up here). It’s about a 10 minute drive from Cedar Lodge.

Would stay again

Over all the place worked for us. You have to have a callig card to make phone calls from your room. We did not have cell phone service. They also charge you per call to use the phones so be prepared. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Would return again.

very convenient location

For the price I paid, it was much better than I expected. The staff was not very kind but it was ok. If you want to visit Yosemite and there is no room in Yosemite Valley, this is the best location . The restaurant is a bit expensive and there are not a lot of choices, but there are not other restaurants in the surroundig areas. Rooms are quite big but not fancy. I had a problem with a lamp and they solved it very fast. I will definitely recommend this hotel.
