Good for the price

Although not in York city this hotel works as it is only 5 minutes from the Park & Ride (2.30 day return each with free parking). The hotel needs modernising, but is clean and quiet. The best aspect is the Breakfast which is included and is 10/10 Full English (with buffet alternatives). For the value it is certainly competitive.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Loads to see in York, 3 days worth. You must visit the National Railway Musuem and the Station. Also do one of the five Ghost Walks (from 8pm). There are also free City Tours (2 hours) from outside of the Art Gallery which is a must as given by a local(10.15am start). Do NOT pay to go on a tour bus, waste of time and money!

not at all impressed

The hotel was both tired and grubby. Unfortunately during our stay there was not a chef in the evenings so evening meals were not available. The staff in my opinion seemed young and inexperienced and this was reflected in the service we received. For smokers the gazebo, next to the dustbins, was in need of repair and there was no outside light in this part of the garden. Walking in the grounds was difficult without wellys as the grass was in need of a cut and we had a very wet week. That all said, the breakfast was second to none (compliments to the breakfast staff) and there were fresh flowers on the tables. Excellent location but we will not be visiting again.
