O.K. for what we paid
Since all we wanted was a cheap holiday in a reasonable location, using self catering facilities, this hotel was fine. The outdoor salt water pool was not heated so only used it once as 19 degrees C was too cold with an air temperature of about 24 degrees. The indoor pool was too small for proper swimming and was also salt water! Having breakfast included at the nearby Dom Juan was a bonus, but the buffet was boring, being the same every day. It would have been better if they varied it by reducing the 3 different egg options and changing the baked beans to tomatoes or mushrooms on some days. Also they need at least one more toast machine, preferably one that works properly all the time. The weather was fine and this made for a good break for the price we paid. Of course the best night out is the "Happy Dinner" at the Algarve Casino in nearby Praia Da Rocha. Where for a mere 27 Euros each you get a beautifully prepared 3 course meal including wine (a whole bottle between 2) and water. Topped off with a show (mainly dancing this time) which starts at 10pm. The taxi was only 6 Euros going and 8 for the return, must better value than here in UK!
Traveller's tip on dining
Dont bother with the evening buffet it is over priced and as boring as the breakfast. There are several good restaurants in nearby Alvor village, such as Casa do Rio (up the steps) just as you get to Alvor or the Dunas development before that. It is not too long a walk to these if you do not have a hire car.

It was ok...
I was expecting the hotel to be in a more lively area and have more amenities. Theres not a lot of choice re:places to eat in the evening and I had to ask another holidaymaker where to go of an evening. The one restaurant on site charges 25euros per person for buffet meal (not including drinks) - extremely expensive if you are a family. Im probably being a bit unfair about the hotel - it was clean and the room had aircon, but no balcony and just wasnt what i was expecting. The pool area was lovely, but the water very very very cold.
Ask reception to book a cab to take you to Alvor taxi rank or harbour, where there are loads of restaurants and bars). I thoroughly recommend The Captains Table (they do the best piri piri chicken) and Paddys Irish bar for a drink.
