Nice hotel but definitely not 5 star...4 star at best
After doing a lot of research online I booked a room here for our stay in Barcelona. Overall it is a very nice hotel. By American standards though, this is definitely not a 5 star hotel. Pros: very good location (tour buses right outside); facilities are modern and well maintained; very professional and friendly staff; great concierge service Cons: small room (although it was supposedly an upgrade, I have stayed in bigger rooms at Best Western or Ramada for $89/night); poorly operational shower with low water pressure and idiotic design where water leaks all over floor; the HARDEST bed and pillows I have ever experienced (felt like sleeping on a park bench); noise (on the 8th) from staff all night; hotel food is mediocre and very, very overpriced ($18 US for a bagel with cheese)
Traveller's tip on dining
DONT eat at the hotel or use minibar...way overpriced. Also avoid the restaurants on Las Ramblas because they are very touristy and overpriced. Most also charge 20-30% more to eat outside...check the prices! Ask around for good places and eat food that the restaurant is known for (e.g. My wife and I stopped at Pita House for a quick bite...my shawarma was very good but my wifes pizza was awful. We literally watched them throw a frozen personal pizza in a toaster oven and serve it...for $15US)
