Great value

Very good experience overall for family with 2 kids (8 and 11); nice room with three beds, beautiful beach with two calm pools enclosed by break walls, most activities (like sea kayaking) are limited to 1 hour a day for free, they offer other options for extra $, 6 big pools and several jacuzzi pools, three buffets available and 24 hr snack bars - enjoyed the mexican food the most in the buffet, two of the buffets have kids food areas, not much activity (like tennis volleyball) going on when we were there, and resort was quite empty. There is a kids club, appears to be for small kids - we did not see any activity there during our stay. There are trolleys to get around among the three adjoining resorts, or you can walk. Very Relaxing, no hassles, and we enjoyed it!

Took a cab for $15 (or you can take the local bus) to the ruins at Tulum (about 20 minutes away) and then walked about a mile south from the exit of the ruins to a beach called Playa Maya - beautiful beach, no rocks, and beautiful, fine sand. There are restaurants along the beach in that area, and you can get a cab for the return.

hotel management with no ability for out-of-box thinking

Through a snafu between hotels.com and the hotel, our reservation said one person instead of two (even though the price on hotels.com and other sites was the same for 1 or 2 people in one room). Much hassle by the fairly incompetent and single minded hotel bookeeping dept. Hotels.com, after a phone conversation, sent a reservation change but the hotel would have none of it. I had to pay an exorbitant amount to the hotel at checkout to maintain my freedom. hotels.com has been diligent in working to get the hotel to return my funds. Thanks to Calva and Andrea.

Worth the trip

Finally found a place with good snorkeling from the beach. The beach itself was real nice with plenty of palapas for all and great to walk on. Only real negative on the place was that the a/c didn’t work so well in the room. Americans were in the distinct minority, and those that were there were not the loud obnoxious types I’ve run into at lesser priced resorts (and I’m an American).

Traveller's tip

They have a book exchange in the basement.
