good value hotel

lovely small hotel in old district under the wall. Near the Farmers’ Market. Easy walk to the port, and funiculair and many nice restaurants. Room is nicely kept and comfortable. We recommend it.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

We enjoyed a performance by the symphony. Tickets were only $25 and, even in the last row, seats were excellent

Great Location

This hotel is in the process of modernizing all the rooms, clean carpets, new bathrooms, fixtures. So in spite of the lobby being a little shaky the rooms are clean and comfortable, if a little small. But the location is great, 6min from the train station, & across the street from a fantastic fresh food market. The neighborhood is wonderful, galleries, bistros, antique shops, not crowded. It is within walking distance of the ’old town’ area. We would stay there again, our friends from Phoenix met us there and they loved it.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Would like to recommend the bistro called Le 48, outstanding food and beverages.

Not bad. Not great. Not what I was looking for.

The location is not in the heart of Old Quebec. It’s more on the outskirts. Be prepared to do a lot of walking uphill. It wasn’t a bad location, but it was two blocks from any of the real shopping & eating centers. The one thing I really liked about the location was its proximity to the vast indoor farmer’s market, which is right across the street, as well as how easy it was to get in and out of by car. When I booked this room I was looking for old world charm, a comfortable bed, and a good location .. not unreasonable for the amount I was paying. The photos of rooms seemed to indicate that. However, when we checked in, we were taken to the 3rd floor, which was in the middle of renovations. The newly-renovated room we stayed in was very modern in its decor, black & white everything, angular, and frankly masculine and kind of cold in appearance. It was missing a lot of little things, like towel bars, a place in the shower for your shampoo, or space on the vanity for your personal items. And the bed was the hardest, nastiest hotel bed I have ever had the displeasure of attempting to sleep on. I woke up tired and crying at 4am. The worst part about the newly renovated room was the sadly underpowered dual-flush toilet, which was already plugged up when we arrived. My husband was pretty upset about it, and we immediately complained. When we returned from dinner, the toilet had been unstuck, or so we thought. It kept getting worse. Finally on day 2 he stole the plunger from the housekeeping closet and tried to fix the problem himself, and after several minutes told me to pack my things, he was demanding another room. The staff quickly obliged, though they were surprised that we did not like their newly renovated room. There were a TON of independent little boutique hotels within the old city that aren’t on hotels.com .. I’ll probably stay in one of those next time. We were moved down to the first floor (floor 2 for us Americans), into a non-renovated room. It was decorated in the same manner as the photos we saw on hotels.com .. warm colors, detailed fixtures. It was worn-looking in places, and smaller than the room upstairs. But the old reliable toilet worked and even the bed seemed a little softer, though I know it was the same type of stiff mattress. And it had an iron, a local amenities guide, a "do not disturb" door hanger, and a place to put my shampoo and personal items. All the little things the other room was missing. The parking is not owned or operated by the hotel, it’s an independent lot across the road behind the gas station. What they didn’t tell us when we parked there was that we either needed to pre-pay with a credit card (they have an ATM-like machine that spits out a ticket for your windshield) or return each day to pay them. Otherwise your car will pile up with little "please pay" envelopes that look like tickets. The staff at the lot were all nice, though each one told you a different version of what we were supposed to do RE paying. And our car was moved around every day so that it didn’t look like it was just sitting there. PS bring your own soap and shampoo & conditioner. They didn’t seem very accurate on handing out soap and body wash (always a surprise when we came back to the room what we had), and the shampoo/conditioner combo will leave your hair feeling like dry twigs.
