Great room for the money
Discovery Resort in Cairns definitely goes along with the feel of the downtown tourist area. Only a couple blocks away from the ocean front and quite close (walking distance) from the downtown area and restaurants. The service is quite minimal but the restaurant attached to the hotel was quite pleasant and the staff was very friendly and accommodating if we needed a cab called or any other services. They would always talk to us when we returned to the room asking how we were, etc. My only complaint is the lack of air conditioning in the room. There is a fan provided but the weather in Cairns is quite a bit on the warmer side and there were a few days AC would have been nice. Otherwise, we were quite pleased with our stay.

not exactly a ’resort’
more of a motel with two storey buildings surrouding two pools. They do have a restaurant, which is a ’restaurant’ not a hotel restaurant. They are about 4 blocks from the centre of the town and about 3 blocks back from the seafront. Clean and tidy, but expect a large motel, not a resort like sandals.
