Great Hotel, but the restaurant is a let down
We stayed at the Hyatt McCormick place to go to the Chicago Auto Show. The checkin staff was extremely friendly, the room was exactly as pictured on this website. No complaints on the hotel itself, however the restaurant in this hotel is crazy. Their prices are quite high, which I do expect when in Chicago, but the service sucked. We had bought a package that included breakfast daily, so we did eat there 3 times; Dinner our first night and 2 breakfasts. Dinner service was so bad I wanted to cry, but all the patrons looked irritated, so I figured maybe the restaurant was just short staffed or having a bad night. Breakfast was just as bad. Food was decent, but service lacked again. Expect a meal to take at least an hour, as nothing was quick about it. Check out at the hotel was just as smooth as check in, and the staff is quite friendly.

Chicago - Hyatt Regency McCormick Place
it was just an overnight stay, but very comfortable room & very accomodating front desk. They provided a wake-up call & then a courtesy reminder call 15 minutes later (snooze call).

Convenience
I stayed at this hotel because of the proximity to the convention center. It proved to be very convenient. It is a nice hotel and for the most party they were very accomodating, but my wake up call did not come on time, which could have been a major problem if I hadnt set my phone alarm as well. The gym was very nice, though!

Good hotel next to McCormick Pl.
I was in Chicago because I was attending a conference at McCormick Place. The hotel is adjacent to McCormick Place, which was very convenient for me. I can get from the conference to my hotel without walking outside. The hotel itself is clean and my room was comfortable and clean. I only spent one night, so didnt have a chance to experience much of the service, but every hotel employee that I have dealt with was polite. Overall, if I have to attend another conference at McCormick Place, I would probably come back to this hotel.

Convenient for convention center
I picked this hotel as my conference was taking place at McCormick Place. There are much nicer hotels for similar prices towards the north of the city, in the middle of the action, but they require a cab ride down to McCormick. The hotel itself was ok. The rooms could use a modernized facelift.

Great Hotel for Business at Convention Center
The hotel was very nice. The room was clean and quiet most of the time. If there is a large event going on you can hear it from the room. The hotel location cant be beat for the convention center or to attend a Bears game at Solider field. It is connected to the convention center and Solider field is probably 5-6 blocks away. The bad: if your main reason to go to Chicago is not for the convention center or Solider field I would stay somewhere else. There is little in the area other than those two things (and a McDonalds) without a taxi or public transportation. The fitness facility was very nice (brand new equipment including cardio, free weights and weight machines) and had more windows than the normal hotel fitness room. It was kept clean and had fresh towels and water on hand. The only part that I would complain about this hotel is all the little charges. I think it has been years since a major hotel has actually charged me for the use of the internet. The beds were comfortable, the view was great from my room, and the people that I interacted with were friendly and courteous. I went for business at the convention so the hotel worked out perfect. FYI: this hotel has a weird elevator so that the back two service levels 22-40+ and the front two service levels 1-20. Everyone trips up on this.
If you arrive at Chicago O Hare in the morning and need to get into the city unless you have deep pockets or dont care how much you charge your company do not take a taxi. Rush hour is bad and it will take nearly 2 hours to get into the city (the trip without any traffic is probably around 30-40 min.) the whole time the meter will be running. I took an airport shuttle and probably saved a bit and maybe it took an extra 15 min. than if I just took a cab.

Not great for kids
Overall the hotel was great, however if you have small children, I wouldnt recommend it. It is far from any major attractions and there are only 2 restaurants on premises and they were both on the nicer side especially for young children.

It depends!!!
It was a very good hotel stay!!, nothing wrong with the hotel, but is not walking distance to anywhere, so if you dont have a car or dont want to get a taxi, you are stuck in the hotel! You are almost force to eat breakfast at their restaurant, and pay $4 for a pot of coffee (even if you only drink ONE cup) and $7.95 for the cheapest selection!

Great Access to Hyde Park and Museum of Science and Industry
We frequently travel to Chicago. We picked this hotel since we were heading to the Harry Potter exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park; it is only a 10 minute drive away. We spent the rest of the day at the University of Chicago campus and neighborhood. We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the room (recently redecorated; smartly appointed). Service was friendly. We ate a meal in the restaurant--decent wine list. Also note: if you have a car, the self-park is about 27 a night, much less than many of the downtown hotels.

thin walls but good hotel service
Hotel workers were very professional and hotel in great condition. South of city but easily accessible to parks along water. One train stop to US Cellular or conference center across street. The bad... thin walls, no hot water at times, brisk walk through projects to red line train. Poor restaurant selection and service at hotel (theres nothing else nearby)
Traveller's tip on local attractions
very close to US Cellular Field and an empty conference center

Very pricey
It was very expensive. Even the parking was outragous. Staying at the hotel did not allow you to get parking at the hotel parking garage. If I can find another place nearby, I wont return to this hotel.

Great for conventions
Up to the usual Hyatt standard. Attached to the convention centre so very convenient for meetings etc. If not attending a convention best to stay downtown even though there is a metro connection. Taxi to the Magnificent Mile takes 10 - 15 minutes. Get a high floor if possible for fantastic views.
Traveller's tip for business travellers
Airline check-in and print boarding pass from lobby computers very useful.

Hyatt in name only.
NO newspaper delivery, or even stocked you had to go downstairs, the doors on the floor I was on, would not close properly unless you slammed them very hard to shut properly? you can quess what happen up and down the hall at night and in the early morning? IT was close to the convention center thats about it. very expensive.

Service Not Great
The hotel was pleasant - The bed comfortable. The staff was not particularly helpful. The bellmen did not offer to carry bags or rarely opened the cab door. There seemed to be some confusion between the desk staff and the concierge. I inquired about borrowing a phone charger and was presented with a tangled mess of multiple chargers left by previous guests. After dropping this mess on the counter, the desk clerk abruptly turned and left me to untangle and find what I could for my phone. Maybe the staff are learning the hotel business

Nice Place When The Water Works
Seems there was a water problem that necessitated turning off all water from 11 PM until 5 AM one night. OK - I could live with that, except I only found out about it by chance as I stopped at the front desk on my way back from a night out...at 11:45 PM. The real problem was the next day, when I got up at 7:15 to get ready for an 8:00 AM breakfast meeting and had no working shower. A sponge bath and washing your hair using a drinking cup is definitely not Hyatt norm. So if the water is back, great. If not, there is a big lake nearby.
Traveller's tip on dining
There is a good Latin usion restaurant within a safe walking distance of the hotel. The Hotels breakfast buffet is good, but dinner needs a little work.

Good Hotel for Business at McCormick
Hotel is very convenient for conferences at McCormick Place. Clean, modern hotel with good services and friendly staff. I was disappointed that parking was so expensive after paying so much for the hotel. And no Wi-Fi or free internet in the rooms :(
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
Located on the bus route and just a short ride from all the restaurants and shopping on Michigan Avenue. Very convenient, cheap and safe.

Liked this Hotel!
We were very happy with our recent stay @ this facility. We picked it mainly since it was close to Soldier Field ( Its @ the convention center- McCormick Place ) but we surprised how nice it was. Our room was very spacious, unlike other downtown Chicago hotels. We were given a corner room on the 6th floor. Paying for parking was around $27 but you could not come & go as you pleased. If you left you would have to pay the full fee again but that is pretty typical in Chicago. We also ate @ the bar/restaurant & that was good as well. We would definitely stay here again.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Close to China town for bargain shopping
