not a four star...but clean
hotel was clean, but not anywhere near four star maybe 2 star, decor and fittings looked like they needed replacing. location was good, a short taxi/bus ride from main tourist area or a good 15-20 min walk. plenty of local restaurants and shops. I prefer good four star hotels so will pay the extra to upgrade next time i am in istanbul.

Comfortable
The staff were helpful and the hotel was clean but felt dated. Breakfast was limited and unfortunately the bread that was served there was not fresh, but there was an maple supply of watermelon. Very near to Tram station to get you to and from the airport and a 10 minute walk from the local tram station to get you into Sultanhmet and further still into Kabatas.

Older but better
This is an older hotel with the amenities of a new one. The difference between this hotel and a newer one is that the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Everything in the bathroom works. That is more than I can say about some of the newer hotels in the area. This hotel is located in an older apartment area. The streets are very busy with people shopping. Unlike the Blue Mosque area of Istanbul, it is more difficult to find people who speak English. However, if you ask a person if they speak English, they will find a person who can. The restaurants in the area are fine. Bars are difficult to find. You wont find people hawking their wares on the street. This is not a tourist area. Since I was on two tours, each 15 days long, I have much experience with breakfast buffets. Tulip Inn Barr has one of the better buffets. I highly recommend this hotel.
Traveller's tip for business travellers
A business person seeking a quiet environment, away from the hustle and bustle would appreciate this hotel. The rooms are equipped for computers. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. They are not proficient in English but they endeavor to please.
