the hotel and room was nice and well-maintained, but housekeeping was no good. on a day when i forgot to tip, housekeeping decided not to finish cleaning the room... there were missing towels and toiletries, and one of the robes was not replaced. this hotel provides easier access to city activities but poor access to outdoor activities.

Good Budget Hotel
The Evergreen Laurel is a good hotel, with an excellent buffet restaurant. Hotel staff are welcoming and helpful. The hotel facilities while a little tired and dated, are comfortable, like an old shoe. Free internet connections are available in all rooms; this is an important perk, when most other hotels charge an arm and a leg for the internet. The Laurel is a short walk from Gurney Plaza, which is a large shopping mall; the hotel is right next door to local eating establishments, and you should try the local fare. Overall the hotel provides good value accommodation, and if you are in the area, would recommend this hotel to you.
The hotel is located very near to the Penang Adventist Hospital, which is a first class private hospital, and can provide emergency care, if needed. Taxis know the hotel, and it is approximately a thirtyminute drive from the Airport.

the hotel was acceptable, the breakfast buffet was horrible, there was a roach running under the burners, and the milk placed on my table was bad. overall, better hotels can be found in the same area in the same price range.
