Rio is great!
The hotel room was quite small but very modern with nice furnishings. The bathroom was also small but again modern. It was probably the nicest room (but the smallest) that I stayed in on my trip. I left a pair of shoes in the hotel room when leaving. When I returned to Rio a week later (to stay in a differnt hote) and returned to the Mar Ipanema to see if by any chance the shoes were there. They were!!! I was delighted and very impressed with the service! The adjacent bar / restarutant was very good and handy!
We went to a fantastic samba bar in the Lapa district called ’Rio Scenarium’. It was very mixed age - prob 25yrs - 65yrs so don’t worry what ever age you are! If you only have one big night i’d recommend here. There were also restraurants in the same street if you wanted to go earlier and eat there. Get a taxi there and back.

Nice hotel in good location
Stayed here for 5 nights in September 2009. It’s quite quirky but the service was helpful and friendly. A nice buffet breakfast in the bar attached to the hotel was included, and had pretty much everything you might want. The strange thing about the bar is that although it’s clearly part of the hotel, you cannot charge anything to your room. Although we were on business, we did have some liesure time, and the hotel were able to arrange a car and driver at reasonable cost (around £50 for the day) who took us around to our chosen sight-seeing destinations. We could have taken taxis, and I am not sure it would have made much difference to the overall cost, but having a car waiting was very convenient. The hotel is well placed 2 blocks from the superb Ipenema beach, and is right in the centre of the shopping district. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants within a 10 block radius, and we felt it was the ideal location. The area felt quite safe at night.
The hotel’s exhcnage rate was extremely good - far better than we could get in the UK, and apparantly at the local exchange shops.

Reasonable hotel for Ipanema, just a bit expensive
Nice location in Ipanema. It is much a better area than Copacabana. Only down side are very small rooms and a bit noisy.
