Porto bargain
Vila Gale Porto, what an excellent find, on the direct metro line from the airport, get off at Campo 24 Augusto then look for the tall building only 1.95 euros. We were allowed to check in at 10.00am after an early flight from London. TAP airline excellent, lots of leg room, meal and drink included both ways. We booked the hop on hop off tourist bus with expedia which turned out to be 4 euros less than the published Porto price. Dont miss the river trip nor the port tasting across the river. Excellent restaurant opposite the hotel called Triumphante 2.All in all an excellent 4 day break.

adequate hotel
Staff very friendly. The hotel a bit out of the way. However a plus it that if you need to open your windows its not smack in the middle of city center where it is smelly and noisy.
Traveller's tip on dining
Abadia is a great restaurant. I highly recommend it . As for Simon!. The seafood rice or "arroz con mariscos" is incredible. A small portion good for two.

Good hotel about 1m from the centre
We had a Junior suite at a very good rate, with air con and a balcony. Furniture a bit utilitarian but otherwise a well appointed set of rooms just below the top floor, where the pool, spa, sauna and gym are. These facilities are extra on the rate, 7.50 Euros per day, and all bathers must wear caps. Breakfast is buffet style and excellent; dinner is buffet for 20 Euros or a la carte. Service for a la carte was a bit slow but the food was good. Reception staff very helpful. Overall, a good experience and excellent value
Although the river front and beaches are a mile away its only about 6 Euros in a taxi
