Prefer Apex International

I booked the City hotel by mistake as I had stayed at the International previously and was very pleased with it. City is not as high standard. Food was mediocre (especially dinner, breakfast was better), no hot water on day two (boiler had gone wrong and no contingency in place), my morning paper was forgotten, my pre-booked breakfast was not in the system. However, room was nice and bed comfortable.

Probably best to eat out. Soup (butternut squash) was well watered down, main course was warmed up new potatoes and two slivers of overcooked salmon, vegetables (extra cost) were very basic.

Excellent Location

Stayed at the Apex City for 3 nights, this was our second visit to Edinburgh but the first to this hotel. The Apex City is situated in the Grassmarket area of the city, with fantastic views of the castle which are stunning especially at night. Just outside the hotel are located some excellent local pubs, most serving food and most with live music each evening. Completely enjoyed our trip would use this area again for another stay.

Booked Room Only and booked in for breakfast on the first morning mainly for ease. The breakfast was adequate and well presented, but would recommend some of the local are pubs as a cheaper and tastier option.

a nice stay

The location was convenient but don’t expect to walk anywhere without walking up and down hills. The use of the pool at the Apex hotel up the street was very nice.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

If you are considering doing a hop on, hop off bus tour make sure you go with the company that has live tour guides. We paid 12 Pounds for recorded commentary and it was really a waste of money.
