Not so Grand
The Dorsett is one of those former 4-star hotels that changed owners and got downgraded. On the surface, things arent too bad but as you look deeper you notice the slight disrepair, the lack of enough staff, and the ALMOST good service. Breakfast was alright and the restaurant was open late for coffee and desert. If you drive, parking is scarce so dont stay out too late with your car. The hotel is not a bad value for the price, as long as youre not expecting it to quite live up to the four-star rating it advertises. On the plus side, the location is quite good, within walking distance of some nice restaurants and shopping in a nice part of town. Also a very short drive to nightlife on either Gurney Drive or down by the E&O hotel in the other direction. It is also easily accessible to the Penang Bridge and the rest of Malaysia.
Traveller's tip for business travellers
Bring earplugs, the walls are INCREDIBLY thin in this hotel.
