Gorgeous hotel let down by variable service

Athens, GA is a great little town, full of independent shops, funky restaurants and more musicians than you can shake a stick at, all quite happy to tell you how they once met Michael Stipe (REM come from Athens and still have a presence in the town). Foundry Park Inn is a lovely, well-located hotel which, if it sorted out its service issues, could really nudge itself up a star rating. The room was comfortable, charmingly decorated and the minibar and in-room snack basket was filled with fun and off-beat sweets and biscuits – a very nice touch. We were particularly impressed with the standard of the room for the price as we’d come from a resort in Santa Barbara which had offered a worse experience for almost four times as much money per night. A restaurant on-site offers delicious southern-style breakfasts (i.e. grits with everything and sweet iced tea) in great surroundings – it feels like you’re inside one of Georgia’s famous antebellum houses. There is also a live music venue which has something on pretty much every night – although don’t worry about noise, they seem to be a pretty civilised bunch and we didn’t hear a peep in our room, even when the bands were on stage. The service lets the hotel down. On two occasions in our three-night stay, our room was not serviced during the day, despite us calling housekeeping and requesting that the room be serviced. I found this extremely poor and such a shame as it lets Foundry Park Inn down considerably.

Athens is absolutely packed full of great restaurants and we had so many great meals - the Last Resort and the Speakeasy were particularly great. Get hold of a copy of Flagpole and check out the listings - or ask a local, everyone’s full of fabulous suggestions!

Quaint yet luxurious!

Really enjoyed the hotel, great bed and bedding, large room, nice bathroom, convienant to downtown Athens. Started off the morning with breakfast at the Hoyt House Restaurant on site, which was delightful. Then went to the Spa for a couples massage. Overall, the experience was wonderful and would recommend to anyone!
