Absolute value for your money

The hotel was great! a few meters from the hotel and you can find some signature shops and also shop jewelry shops where you can buy some gifts for people back home. Theres also a huge toy store where your kids can get the stuff they want. Try walking around the area you get to find some nice tea shops which offer food at reasonable prices. This would definitely be my pick on my next stay in Beijing.

Walk to the main intersection and turn left. Walk a few meters more you can find a MerryHome diner which serves Chinese food. A few meters more and you can find a McDonalds. Also at the intersection, turn right and you can find a KFC outlet.

Wangfujing Grand

About a 20-25 minute walk to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Room was clean and comfortable. Somehow got a free upgrade upon arrival. Was pleasantly surprised to find a computer in the room with internet access! Didn’t buy the breakfast at the hotel, but ran to nearby McDonalds for breakfast instead. It was much cheaper to do it that way. Concierge spoke just enough English to be helpful depending on the person at the desk. People and service were very good.

Good for the cost

The hotel isn’t glamorous but it was comfortable and clean. Beds are hard but that’s common for China. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. We are Americans and had no problem getting checked in or getting the information we needed. We went to a few places via taxi and the staff wrote down the information for the taxi driver, this made it very easy to get around. We didn’t use many of the amenities. However the buffet downstairs is very good. The free internet in the room and the great location is what attracted us to this hotel. The in room internet worked great and Wangfujing is a great location to see many of the main Beijing sights. We were very happy with our stay. Worth the money, I think.

Haggle! Otherwise you will get ripped off! Everything was AT LEAST 1/6th of the asking price and some things were even cheaper than that. Get rid of your western thinking of what things would cost in the US and Europe and you will do well. Search the internet on ’Haggling in Beijing’, or ’Beijing shopping’ --Highly recommended before you shop!
